I hate we let him go.

McDaniel is a genuinely nice young man, who was very well liked by many people within the organization. But ultimately in the NFL, you get held accountable for wins and losses. He regressed in his final two seasons with no appearent answers.

There were lots of reasons to fire him. Game management, clock management, lack of answers or adjustments and practice habits are just a few. In the end, he repeated too many of his mistakes which cost the team wins.

I'll remember him for his creativity and ability to create confusion on the opponents defenses. But also his failures. Too stubborn and unwilling to remove himself from the play calling aspect eventually caught up to him.

I truly feel for the guy. I hope he finds a way to dig deep inside and accept his failures and finds way to rectify his appearent ego, which has kept him from true success. If he correctly removes himself from play calling and delegates more, I'd think he could have huge success.

Mad respect for you posting this. Don’t let the idiots try to lie and make it out this franchise was winning before he arrived. It been a loser franchise for years. But they blame McDaniel. They are dumb. Can’t wait for the firings in 3 years again. I am rooting for it just like some of these guys rooted against McDaniel. See ya in three years lol.
The guy sucked as a Head Coach. We all wanted him to win, and I would never root against a Fins coach... but he was a clueless dork. He had to go.

Well said again

I don't know. For someone who's supposedly so "smart" he does a LOT of stupid.

Like his typical press conf shtick -- was that all just some kind of avant garde intellectual "noodling," or is he prone to tangential wanderings that wind up on some vacant lot in Opa-locka?

I just think he'd be really hard to take for more than appetizer servings once or twice a week.

That said -- all the best to the guy. He got a lot of money most folks won't ever see! So it can't be that bad.

Title says it all.

McDaniel’s biggest mistake was hitching himself to Tua at the hip, and that experiment failed miserably. My frustration peaked after the Buffalo loss to clinch the division. That game alone told me Tua wasn’t it. He never had the clutch gene at Bama the way I wanted him to, why I wanted us to draft him. I’ll admit it, I wanted Tua over Herbert in the draft. After that playoff game, I knew I was wrong, so wrong.

And yet, McDaniel still managed to make Tua look like an All-Pro/MVP for one season. He had to limit what he could even do offensively because of Tua’s limitations. No other coach in the NFL could’ve pulled that off. That alone says everything about McDaniel. Down the stretch this year, those players played their asses off for him. You don’t get that kind of buy-in by accident.

The reason I’m so upset is simple: there is literally no one I think is better than McDaniel that we could realistically hire, including Harbaugh. If Mcdaniel had a qb like Lamar... My god, I couldn't even imagine what we could have been.

He will succeed elsewhere. Give him a real NFL quarterback and watch him cook. I’m disgusted with the fans who called for his head — they’re going to regret it.

I know I'm in the minority here, so being flamed is welcomed and expected. We're all on the same team here, I'm just expressing my frustrations.
His biggest mistake was hitching himself to Tua? Umm the franchise did that before McD showed up. This was a forced marriage and McD did all he could with panty waste noodle arm injury prone Tua.

While there was a lot to like about McDaniel there was plenty to not like and he never seemed to improve dramatically in game management. Being a first time play caller and first time head coach simultaneously was just way too much to ask. He needed a play caller to execute his gameplan

There's eight vacant coaching jobs - Harbaugh is linked to almost all of them, McDaniel is linked to one - The Browns.

If McDaniel was highly regarded, he'd be in the running for most openings. He's isn't, so that's all you need to know
He has an interview with Tennessee as well

Are ****ing kidding me, no coaches as good as McDaniel including Harbough?
It's fans that think like this that are the reason we are where we are. Celebrating mediocrity with unwarranted hope, trying to justify that McDaniel is a good Coach, or Ross is a good owner, or Grier was a good G.M.

These fans do not watch the games, and if they do they don't know what the are truly watching. Give me a ****ing break about McDaniel and why he was handicapped, the proof is clear as day and has been proven time and time again yet some fans choose to not except reality.

Shut up dude
Your post is an embarrassment
You’re trying to get a reaction here and the smart posters won’t take the bait
that's not it at all. you must one of these aforementioned "smart posters"

I'm just stating my opinion, thats all.

Why are you guys still discussing McD ?
It’s over
He’s gone
No one cares about him
Move on

I disagree about the Tua point. McDaniel ultimately failed because he wasn’t a good head coach. Don’t get me wrong, McD is my favorite dolphin coach since Saban.

His teams just weren’t physically tough enough to win against good teams especially on the road. We were a soft team under McD. He ran a country club atmosphere regarding practice.

His play calling and clock management were also an issue for the last 4 years.

I know this opinion is not shared by most of the fanbase but I think Tua was good before McD came here. He did elevate Tua to an mvp candidate. Tua regressed significantly the last two years and it may be because of body/head injuries or maybe he got paid and checked out. Who knows and who cares because that is over.

Bottom line, McDaniel and Grier had a top 5 most talented roster in 22 & 23 and failed to win a playoff game. McDaniel seems like a great guy but it simply wasn’t good enough. There are plenty of good coaches available

I remember when I had my first beer.

Dude, mcdaniel has sucked with so many other QBs not named Tua. If what you are saying was true then wouldnt mcdaniel and this offense never miss beat all the times Tua was out? But that was never the case, even with Hill and Waddle and Achane.

Tua looks done now but he wasnt some random Joe. He was a highly regarded prospect and "Tank for Tua" was real.

Mcdaniel couldnt win the big games, whether you want to blame that on Tua or not. Mcdaniel made his bed by hithcing himself to Tua. He didnt have to do that, but mcdaniel went to bat to make sure Tua got paid. No one forced mcdaniel to do that so mcdaniel obviously viewed Tua as a key asset for his offense. And that was clear based on how dysfunctional this offense was without Tua.

Tua wasnt to blame for all the delay of games. Have you ever heard mcdaniel speak? Listening him try to answer a simple question, makes we want to claw my eyes out. With his rambling incoherent responses. So imagine listening to mcdaniel try to call in a play.....that alone would probably give Tua a concussion.

Was Tua to blame for the "culture" problems set here?

Mcdaniel was a flash in the pan.....against only bad teams. Tell me several things mcdaniel does well consistently? Because I have a list of things he consistently fails at and I dont know many things he does well in.

Not the stuff of a well rounded team - lots of fun for the fan

Still for me, Smoke & Mirrors hardly sustainable especially wouldn’t travel in inclement weather - zero depth at any position and if the officiating put away the whistle which they tend to do and they did we were terribly exposed at least Tua was
Maybe, but it was the only time the Dolphins had a talented and healthy OL in the last 5 years. It would have been nice to see what they could have done if they stayed healthy. I mean Skylar freaking Thompson was a drive away from beating the Bills in the cold of a January playoff.
