McDaniel is a genuinely nice young man, who was very well liked by many people within the organization. But ultimately in the NFL, you get held accountable for wins and losses. He regressed in his final two seasons with no appearent answers.
There were lots of reasons to fire him. Game management, clock management, lack of answers or adjustments and practice habits are just a few. In the end, he repeated too many of his mistakes which cost the team wins.
I'll remember him for his creativity and ability to create confusion on the opponents defenses. But also his failures. Too stubborn and unwilling to remove himself from the play calling aspect eventually caught up to him.
I truly feel for the guy. I hope he finds a way to dig deep inside and accept his failures and finds way to rectify his appearent ego, which has kept him from true success. If he correctly removes himself from play calling and delegates more, I'd think he could have huge success.
