Usually before the draft the team with the No.1 pick opens up talks with the 2 or 3 players it is considering with the top pick. Last season the Raiders opened up talks with Russell and even spoke with Brady Quinn and Calvin Johnson measuring their interest in signing them to contracts. They did this to help them decide who would be best. They ultimately picked Russell and he held out.

I would believe that if the Dolphins allready know who they are going to select. Regardless of whether I agree with the pick or not. They would enter into some type talks with said player. This is something the team with the No.1 pick is allowed to do. Hell they could even sign the player before the draft.

I have a bad feeling that draft day is going to come and when the commish takes the podium the Dolphins would have traded the pick away and we are going to get screwed with a player no one has ever heard of AGAIN!

This may allready be a done deal and will not be announced until draft day. We may go from picking No.1 to picking near the bottom.

:boohoo:

if we were able to trade out of number one for value, i'd actually prefer to go that route.i can see parcells and ireland starting to negotiate with some top prospects in the week leading up to the draft, but i still think they hold out hope they can trade down while they're on the clock.

slippery, my man, getting out of that pick is exactly what we want. given our needs and no clear #1 pick, that would be ideal. we want all the picks we can get. think about it, w/our picks now, there is no way we will be able to fill our needs. we dupe someone into taking mcfadden (still the sexy #1 pick), stockpile draft picks, and before you know it we have filled our needs and added must needed depth. with the awesome depth around the mid levels of the draft (laws, bell, goff, zbikowski, etc) we can go into next season w/a legitimate shot of having a winning record. come on now man, while you make me laugh, you need to do some serious homework. you are still my boy though blue.

The team has already stated that they would love to trade down. Won't happen.

It would be the best situation for us.

Not a mystery here folks.

Parcells knows what he's doing...chill....you must chill

Ozzy rules!!

We'll probably start negotiations with a bunch of players about a week to a week and a half before the draft.

I think there is a trade between Jerry and Bill Parcells in place. It is being kept under wraps. What and who will be traded I do not know. But Fins & Cowboys are the only 2 teams that have inside on each other enough to keep secrets. Remember they almost got Derek Anderson in Miami and we did not know until just recently.

I am not banking on anyone anymore.

u mad?

I seriously doubt any trade is in place because no one wants to pay the top pick, but if there was someone stupid and rich enough to move up there it would be Jerry Jones. But i truely would think he is smart enough to realiize what a trade like that could do to a franchise since he has first hand experience in the matter with the Hershall Walker trade back in the day.

Let's hope Jerry Jones is a freakin idiot and does a trade!!!

Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he’s not interested in making such a trade, and in doing so he acknowledged what is becoming a consensus around the league: Highly drafted rookies just aren’t worth the money they make.
“I have no intent at all of moving into the top five,†Jones told the Star-Telegram. “A team can get crippled, and I mean seriously crippled, from a financial standpoint by being up there in the top five or six. It’s a real negative.
“Nobody wants in there, and the teams in there, they want out.â€

Thats not smoke and mirror guys, Jerry doesnt want to be in the top 5, and we could barely afford that type of guarantee to a player, which is in the ballpark of 30 million, we have too many young studs to resign, Jerry isnt even thinking about moving up, especially to #1.

"Outside of a highly rated quarterback, there is no other position I'd pay what it takes today to be up there," answered Jones...

The first pick these days expects $30 million, guaranteed. To be in the top five can cost a team between $20 million and $30 million. All this for rookies.

"There is a real problem in our league with this," Jerry said. "I don't want to go there."

"We need a running back to go with [Marion] Barber, but with the high regard we have for him, combined with what's available in this draft, it makes no sense to me to be going up there to the top of the draft," Jones said. "I think we can find what we need where we are."

yes i know its before the draft and nobody wants to reveal their hand, but we dont have any intentions of getting the top pick with the price attached to it.
