This article brings up a good point about how Sparano feels about Akin Ayodele. Ayodele is 29 yrs old, in the prime of his career, and according to Sparano a "leader".
Sounds like MIA may be drafting a young LB in the mid rounds to compete with Reggie Torbor at the WILL (where he started for the SB Champion NYG)...so it would still be Akin Ayodele replacing Crowder at the MIKE LB.
AKin had 2 INTS and a few FFs this year, which qualifies him as a playmaker. He also added 87 tackles to tie him for 3rd on the team in tackles behind Bell and Crowder.
Even if we signed Bart Scott, who is a natural WILL LB, he would merely replace Akin at the WILL and Akin would slide to the MIKE replacing Crowder at the MIKE, who according to Sparano Akin would be ideal for being a great "leader".
I would actually be against signing Scott and just drafting a cheaper and younger guy to compete with Torbor at the WILL. This is the cheaper way to go and much better for our salary cap situation for the future.
Plus if MIA isn't willing to pay Crowder the money he is asking for, and so conservative that they are unwilling to even use the franchise tag on anyone, I'm sure they aren't willing to pay Scott what he wants either.
Sounds to me that they have their eyes on a specific high priced FA like C Jason Brown and a CB (that could end up being Goodman if they lose out on a Mcfadden or someone like that), which is why they are being so stern with their own FAs.
I think MIA is going to re-sign Carey, Bell, and Hill.
They are probably waiting to see what CBs are available before deciding on what to do with Goodman and are probably willing to keep the salary space that Crowder would cost for more money to sign Jason Brown.
I wouldn't worry too much...yet anyways. :D
We're probably going to be in better shape Salary Cap-wise and better depth-wise and starter-wise by the time the NFL Draft comes around. :hump:
