I have a strange feeling about Devlin

I we go into the season with the current QB's, this team won't win more than 6 games.

Yes, last year with less talent then this year, and a tougher schedule, we won 7 games, but this year we will not win 6 games...got it.

Im not going to pretend like i know anything about this kid other then the fact that hes an udfa we signed...but for some reason ive had this feeling in my gut since we signed him that he was going to be a big surprise

I have to admit that it's absolutely pathetic how someone can have a good feeling about an NFL career over ONE completed pass over a 7-on-7 drill just 3 days into training camp.

Are you f*cking kidding me ?

Lets wait and see what he can do in a game before call him the next Tom Brady or UPS worker.

maybe it has more to do with his play in college, maybe its like how people have a good feeling about, i dont know, newton even though most would say he is a bust waiting to happen, maybe its because i am a fan and want to see the guy succeed.

or maybe i should give up hope and cry ortin all day long and call proclaim anyone with optimism absolutly pathetic. Did I sum it all up correctly or am i off base?

yeah. thats probally the better thing to do on this board. It seems everyone here wants to talk down any optimism, and they would rather beg for some guy who has been around 5-6 years, and has shown nothing to suggest hes just an average quarterback. The Marino drought has clearly sucked the life out of some of us

Its tough, i used to post all the time, then only during the preseason/season now usually just the preseason. I am just too tired to argue and then get slammed for the slightest bit of optimism. Oh well, onward with the dolphin bashing (its the in-thing, its cool)

Pat Devlin has alot of upside but Drew Brees was awful his first few years in the Nfl and so was brett favre so im not willing to give up on Henne just yet

It will be great for us if your gut feeling comes to fruition. I am a big UD fan, and watched him play, he has very good accuracy. Devlin has good skills who can become a productive QB with the right coaching. Can he play? Yes! Is he NFL ready? No. He is 2-3 years away from contending for a chance to start.

Wow really?

Anyways, I havent seen anything on Delvin but his Youtube highlights. One thing that stood out to me is his ball placement. Very receiver friendly. The WRs caught the passes without jumping or extending their hands over their heads. Thats a big positive in my book. Last thing we need is another Fielder.

I'm bumping this because I've been giving him a lot of thought. My gut, which granted isn't always right, kept saying we should draft him at some point. Then when all the UDFA QB names were floating around, my visceral instinct was that I hope we sign him. That's mostly gut and reaction - which I do trust

While I'm a spiritualist who doesn't believe in preordained fate, I can't discount how he ended up with us. We know that there were a number of teams keeping a close eye on him through last season and beyond including NE and the Giants. We also know that as a UDFA, he had his pick of suitors, including I believe, 4 offers, and he selected us. Despite my disinclinations I can't discount that as being fate. Factor in that after a sterling year with Delaware, he was awful in the East West Shrine Game and actually and inexcusably turned up 30 mins late for his own Pro Day. Well, we know this kid's not a problem, has been a leader and pulled over a 3 GPA academically. Why did he turn up late or have such an uncharacteristic game for someone known for his quick thinking and accuracy? Who can say, but I strongly suspect that if neither of those negatives happened he'd have been drafted, and maybe a lot earlier than the 7th round.

IMO, for the Fins, this is like all the stars falling into alignment - otherwise we'd never have gotten him. Throw in the fact that we passed on Mallett twice and when finally trying to trade up to grab him, it was too late. Had we been successful, Devlin would be on some other roster I suspect.

Now some members have said, and they're not necessarily wrong, that he went undrafted for a reason.. and yes the generalizations outweigh the exceptions. But some of those exceptions have been doozies, like Brady in the 6th, Colson in the 7th, Harrison, Leonhard, Bart Scott, Wes Welker, Arian Foster, Myles Austin, Antonio Gates, Romo, DelHomme (who did have his time in the sun), Warner, etc as UDFAs and and of course Wake, who some around here also claimed couldn't successfully transition from the CFL. How did that work out?? I can go on and on with names of UDFAs and/or 6/7th rounders the so-called experts thought so little of, but you get the gist. Sure the successful ones are the exceptions, but those exceptions aren't few and far between either and many of them turned out to be outright studs.

No guarantee that Devlin will be successful, but IMO he's got all the tools going for him that someone like Brady or Pennington possess. I believe his being scorned by the draft was a blow to his ego, and as a smart guy, he's got a chip on his shoulder and a point to prove. I"m delighted we have him, hope he does well enough at camp that our so-called "braintrusts" for the sake of accommodating another retread, churned QB like Troy Smith, do not risk putting him on the PS where I'm sure he'll be snapped up. Call me nuts but I think it's fate that despite our FO's misteps with QBs, and this franchise's suckage since Marino, karma thrust a potentially good one in our faces, whether we were looking for him or not :idk:

Just my 2cents

With our qb situation we have nothing to lose to see how he develops The trick is how he reacts when he gets pressured? As noted by someone else on the thread running with the 3rd string OL skews things a bit. How would perform if he had the number one unit blocking for him?

That's a beautiful line right there...

karma to the Dolphins: "Since you're not capable of acquiring one on your own, I've taken it upon myself to place him in your presence"....

TY, Teddy.. I know you very unsentimentally quantitatively and then qualitatively evaluate these guys.. but can you see where I'm coming from from a Cosmic level?
