Yessir, me and Mr. Bacardi Gold....

So we run a Wide 9. The idea is to play with a lead (what’s that?), therefore rushing the front 7 and dropping the secondary into coverage.

Since we have the lead, the other team will not be running the ball, therefore we do not require a strong run D. A good thing since we do not have one.

Our D line will force the QB into poor throws if not outright sacks. Our secondary is more than capable of covering forced passes (they probably are, but we’ll never know).

With properly timed blitzing and press coverage, we will feast.

Did I miss anything?

Sadly, I don’t think I’m off by much....

I think that's the company line. I've always thought that the idea of building a D to play with a lead is utter nonsense unless the other team spots you 14 at the start of the game.

IF we could score like KC or New Orleans then this defensive strategy would be awesome. But then do you really even need a defense?

That is pretty much the way it works. You can use the scheme in different situations, but we are typically not in these situations and you have to have a plan when the game calls for something else. It is a bad philosophy and our "resident genius" on offense is not living up to his end of the bargain. We need to get some new ideas in the organization and scrap the the ineptitude that is associated with our FO and coaching staff.

Gase being a young coach and pinning his hopes on the wide nine scheme being great for his defense is just beyond me. I just don't get that. It makes zero sense to me.

Building your defense to "play with the lead" is one the stupidest of many stupid ideas to come out of SoFla in a long time, imo.

Build a defense to stop the other team, no matter what the circumstances.

But... the first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers..
