Thats right. If Cobbs hadnt gotten injured earlier in the year, Id say we are fine. But, lets face it. We need another guy anyway with Ronnie out.

You guys can pump up Hilliard and Sheets all you want. The reality is, those guys have never accomplished anything in this league.

Edge played in a Super Bowl last year and has experience we need. Yes I know even Seattle cut him and he is old and more or less washed up. But, face it. Right now he is as good an option as there is for us. I think he would enjoy finishing out his career in Miami.

He can take some of the carries that Ricky dosent want. We could still mix in a little Hilliard if he shows something as well.

But, Edge would bring veteran experience that knows NFL defenses and can pick up blitzes etc etc... He has been there done that. I think it would be helpful to Henne to not have to count on inexperienced guys in certain spots.

Edgerrin James *******.

Actually, I agree with you here. I think it'd be a good idea to try and sign him once we find out the extent of Ronnie's injury.

Meh...while it would make a lot of sense for him to come home to Miami, IMO, he's done.

FWIW, how many times have we seen young, fairly unknown backs explode onto to the NFL radar? Answer - fairly frequently. I say hand the ball to Hilliard and/or Sheets, and let's roll with them.

Not an awful idea but I think when it comes to RB's your better off with the fresh legs of the young bucks. I know you already mentioned it yourself but theres a reason he's not still in Seattle and it's not because they are overflowing with talented backs.

I was actually thinking about this a few days ago. Let me remind you that Edge wanted to come here when Ricky retired. He is a Miami native and I think he may even be a Dolphin Fan. It wouldn't hurt and I do know he is only a few yards away from being a top 10 rusher all time. Given Drew Rosenhaus is his agent and his Miami roots this is could happen.

Undrafted rookies > washed up old running backs.

When you are done, you're done. Ask Shaun Alexander.

Definately true which is why I would still give Hilliard some carries.

But, you must also consider this question......

How many times have we seen young fairly unkown backs come into games and do little things that inexperienced backs do(miss an assignment, FUMBLE, not pick up a blitz and get his QB killed, make costly penalties, drop easy passes)?

You see thats the things that worry me. Especially the one about getting our QB killed and causing turnovers. The last thing we need is something bad to happen to Henne.

Which is why I would be all for bringing in Edge. The little things at this point would be more important to me. The security of knowing the guy in that spot knows wtf is going on out there. I would sacrifice fresh legs for someone with veteran noggin at this point. But, thats just me.

If he was still productive I'd say yes. But he isn't. Pass.

Again, Im not looking at it as far as someone for big production so much as getting someone on the field who knows what the **** they are doing out there.

Face it guys. Right now Ricky is the only RB we have with any real experience in an NFL game. We need someone to help him out that wont kill us out there. Will Edge come in and carry it 15 times for 90 yards....**** no. But, will he come in and NOT fumble, NOT get Henne killed, NOT drop an easy pass......you bet your ***.

He is the one guy available with enough NFL experience to come in and know everything right away and get out there on the field.

Ricky will be the guy we look to for production from a rushing standpoint. Edge could be the guy we look to when we need to give Ricky a breather and not completely kill our chances of winning a game by making a huge blunder.

The more I think about it the more I see it as a no brainer. Im sure Edge would do it being at home and all too. Say what you want but the guy was a decent contribution to a team that went to the bowl last season.

Granted he obviously dosent have the explosiveness to be a threat in the rushing attack any longer seeing as both Arizona and Seattle let him walk, but the dude at least has played in the NFL long enough, seen enough blitz and taken on enough top notch LBs to trust putting out there more than a couple of rookies who have never gained a rushing yard in their lives in this league.

It is not that bad of an idea. I think you have to at least bring him in for a tryout. With the extra rest from not playing earlier this year he could have something to offer. He is clearly not a long term option though.

I think it's a good idea, but I wait to make the move until I see how Ricky's backups do Thursday night. If it's a poor showing, we bring Edge in and he's got a week and a half before our next game. If we don't think we need him to beat Buffalo, we've got two and a half weeks to get him ready. No harm in keeping his number handy.
