It just seems to me that you hear more about Parcells than Sparano as running the team, which is a first. I know Bill is Exec. V.P., but most for most teams, you don't even know who the VP is! Granted Parcells has an amazing rep of turning teams around, but I just hope it doesn't turn into some kind of Jerry Jones thing, where he's always around, and you can't help but think that the coach is there just to fill the empty slot. Seems to me that Parcells should have just become coach himself, with a contract that puts him in charge of everything, because it looks like that will be the case. Whatever happens, I hope it makes us a better team of course, but I can already see constant shots of Parcells in the Owner's Box, and every reaction he has to every play, and the commentator saying things like, "I'd hate to have to talk to Parcells after the game with plays like that." Anyway, just had to mention that, sorry if I missed anything about it before, and of course, Go Phins:up:

If it gets us wins, who cares. If Parcells can help Sparano be the best coach he can be, im all for it

Well, it is a puppet show... it was from the beginning. As stated, though, if it leads to wins then who cares?

JayDog57, most teams don't even have a V.P. of Football Operations. It was a title made up to give to Bill because he IS in charge of everything related to football. Parcells, didn't want to be a coach anymore and this way if things don't work out, he can always fire his coach and start over.

I belive you are overthinking what is happening here.

Parcells will be a presence for sure, but I do believe he thinks these men (Sporano and Ireland) can do the job, and will only step in when he sees them headed down a path he wouldn't choose. I fully believe that Sporano is not a marionette for Bills Parcells to string around.

I thought that this was the title given to Dan Marino a few years as well, but I could be wrong.

Eddie Jones was the President of the Dolphins I think, or was he the "Vice Pres" and had this title ? Anyone know ?

It's a bit unfair to credit everything to Parcells just because it seems "Parcells-like". Everything is going to be "Parcells-like", Parcells purposely hired Ireland and Sparano because they were familiar with and shared his philosophy with building and running a football team. Bill Belichick brought over Scott Pioli because he knew that they came from the football background and shared the same football philosophy.

If you don't want Bill Parcells thumbprints on the organization, don't hire Bill Parcells. Go back to Randy Mueller and Cam Cameran.

Well said , thanks for the input:beer1: :peace1:

I understand what you're saying, I just was thinking about the over-conflict of Parcells telling Sparano what to do even when they're on the field to cause problems with the team. I see what you're saying though.:)

The day Parcells was hired as our VP I predicted that it would be a puppet show, and I continue to think it is and will be. You hear guys like Joey Porter and others talking about Parcells and wanting to impress Parcells ... they're not even mentioning their own HC, Sparano until prompted. So yeah, I think it was always a given that it would be a puppet show.

That said, Parcells has done a decent job of attempting to blend into the background, but the media is going to play him up because he's a star name and Sparano isn't. Parcells is also the colorful personality, and again, Sparano isn't (neither is Irelannd for that matter). Parcells has drawn attention for the JT situation, but other than that, he has done his best to be a silent observer and behind the scenes contributor to Sparano's team. The problem is that his nature is such that he's naturally a dominator and even his silent presence lends itself to the puppet image.

Additionally, Sparano is happier in the background than the foreground I think. He speaks when he must, and does some of the external things required, but he seems to be happiest blending into the background and enjoying the freedom of the HC label without coming out and grabbing the wheel of the ship and announcing in no uncertain terms, "I'm the Captain of this ship." It's almost as if the media says "You're captain right?" and he says "uh huh." So, it's possible that the media is overblowing this puppet image and the two of their personalities are making it easy to do.

I would hope that Parcells has enough respect for Sparano not to be hawking the sidelines during games etc. We will see i guess. But i do agree Parcells brought these guys in because he thinks they will whip a team into shape with the same -full steam ahead with a destination in mind- kind of attitudes that he himself has. I think we are headed back to retro style running game and i am freakin totally excited to watch it!!!! BOOM!!!! R&R Express coming to your town

Parcells is a team executive, not a coach, not currently. If for some reason he worked under Tony Sparano then i might consider Sparano some what of a puppet or figure head, but for coaching decisions it will be Sparano calling the shots from the sidelines and not Parcells from the luxury box.

Sparano is just a lovable puppet. Notice in his press conferences when he makes a statement with "I" am doing such and such. Then quickly backtracks and replaces "I" with "WE".

I am afraid of Gameday and we have this guy on the sideline having to make a decision and he is squinting up into the skybox to see if the TUna gives him a signal or picks up a phone to tell him what to do.

This all has the makings of a recipe for complete disaster.
