I've been thinking about this team and the 1999 Colts. We both won 10 more games than the previous season, won the AFC East, but lost our first playoff game at home.
I'm sure 9 years ago Colts fans were just as upset as we are tonight, but were excited that they were putting together a championship caliber team.
Only it didn't happen right away. In fact, it took a loooong time for any progress to be made.
If you remember, they lost in the first round to us the following year, then had a down year and missed the playoffs, and then came back and got blown out the next year in the first round. It wasn't until 2003, four seasons after the record breaking turnaround year, that they finally won a playoff game.
Then came the losses to the Patriots. After losing to the Pats for two years in a row, they performed one of the biggest choke jobs in NFL history when they lost to the Steelers in the 2005 playoffs.
At that point it appeared that the window was starting to close, but in 2006, after seven years of patience, the Colts broke through and won the SuperBowl.
Now I'm not saying that we can't win the SuperBowl until 2015, but I am saying that these turnarounds can take many years. I just hope the fans and ownership are willing to be patient.

We went from 1-15 to division winners at 11-5. Parcells staying on is good news. We made a lot of good decisions in the offseason and as long as we keep drafting well, we should be staying on top.

We didnt give up after a 1-15 almost winless season, we wont ever give up on our fins.

I was 5 in 1984, and that's when I discovered that there was a football team that wore something other than Honolulu Blue that was much more exciting to watch. My allegiance has never wavered since.

I will say it again for the 5389758th time. How can anyone 1) have thought we were a superbowl caliber team, let alone anything more than a 7 win team this year 2) actually be upset about anything right now?

If this is really the case, the offended haven't been dolphin fans for very long.

We got our butts handed to us by a superior team in pretty much all facets of at least the skill positional players if not more. Why be worried about that though. We are doing our own thing and in the grand scheme of how to rebuild an NFL franchise, I dunno about you but we are doing pretty darn good.

exactly my dad is from so. florida and i was born a dolphins fan in 1985 and one of these years i will give up my michigan season tickets and move down there because the dolphins are my team till death

I don't really think you can compare them to the 99 Colts.... I mean Pennington isn't Manning. I'm not knocking the team or anything, but it's apples and oranges.

A good comparison IMO is the 98 Falcons.

Veteran QB who was pushed out for someone else... lands a new job and with the help of a really good RB proves everyone wrong. That team really wasn't expected to do much but they were scrappy.

And don't forget the teams we play next year too!.............

Patriots (2)
Jets (2)
Bills (2)
Steelers
Chargers
Titans
Colts
Texans
Jaguars
Panthers
Falcons
Bucs
Saints

Best of luck to our 2009 Miami Dolphins!

Obviously it is too soon to tell but this has to be the hardest schedule in the league or pretty darn close to it. How did we get stuck with that bad boy? Looks like we got the AFC South....damn..

I see 9-10 wins in that schedule right now. With some upgrades to the roster, there's no reason we can't get back to at least 11 again.
