We don't have a solid every down running back. Thomas is not as good as the # he was picked at. Slaton and Bush are fast, but need big holes to run through. We need a back who attacks the line, breaks tackles, and has breakaway speed. None of our current backs have all of these traits. YES, we need a good QB, but, we also could use a true running back. We are pretty much settled at the position, as mediocre as it is, but if I were picking.......... Lamar Miller RB Miami.
 
i can deal with a group of bush thomas slaton messum. its probably the only thing i DONT want right now. plus i like some of the later round backs. runningback by comittee works well. feature backs get shut down and then your SOL
 
Not sure why your so down on Thomas, i think he's going to be awesome ! Between he, Bush, Messam, I'm hardly worried about HB in Philbins offense.

RB is not a priority right now....I believe Thomas is going to be a beast and Bush will make more plays tis year....the guy from canada could be our next Wake.

RB?...are you kidding me....we don't have a QB or a #1 receiver but let's go get a RB in the first....thats laughable....
 
The only RB worth drafting is Richardson becasue he is on a level like Peterson. If he falls to us and I dont think he will, I dont mind if we draft him but better to trade down for lots of picks if he does. Jax will trade the pick first if Richardson falls.
 
Depending on the holes we fill in FA, I'm down with Trent Richardson. Doesn't fill an immediate need but he will be BPA.
 
richardson may have the best HOF potential of anyone in this draft other than Luck. There is a case here.
We need PLAYMAKERS in general.

I just absolutely cannot stomach the idea of yet another Top 10 pick being WASTED... THROWN AWAY... on a lineman or defensive player. We have plenty of those. We need offensive skill-position players worse than anyone else in the whole league.

We only have 1 top ten pick "wasted" on a lineman or defensive player. And that player is the perennial pro bowler best LT in the league Jake Long. If you want to talk about "wasted" glamour top ten picks, let's talk Ted Ginn
 
Pardon my ignorance, but I was basing this on everyones spot on knowledge that we will get a QB and WR through FA. Isn't that what is being rambled about constantly in the forums. If that turns to be true, then we need a running back that does downhill running effectively. Thomas is NOT going to be a beast. He will be an ok back, but most likely will last about 3-5 years and then fade into mediocrity. He doesn't have ALL the skills needed to get an effective running game established. Maybe the Canadian kid can get it done, but what if he doesn't? Oh, we can throw it to Reggie in the flats, that will dry up fast. Reggie is not a power running. So, pardon my stupidity, but we need a GOOD running back. Speed, power, vision, intelligence, and courage all in one package. We have those traits throughout our RB by committee, but it would be nice to have it all in one guy.

I wouldn't blink if Richardson is there at 8... Few come along like this kid and could be an impact back like McCoy, Peterson, Johnson, foster...
 
I think DT needs an NFL offseason and full camp before we give up on him. Furthermore I thought he was good at times.

Your basing it on people dreaming then....we aren't filling many holes on FA unless we sign Flynn which is far from a sure thing.
