i frankly like ireland, and i actually like how he may play this off season close the vest.

what i have noticed thats funny, are his latest quotes being taken completly out of context, and getting fans thinking things will go a certain way - most people will probably be dissappointed on draft day/FA period if things dont go as they've read - maybe like the whole Mallet b.s. when watching the full interviews it is obvious that ireland has actually indicated little, while the media puts words in his mouth. just found it interesting.

On Being "obsessed" with finding a QB - Reporter asked him "how obsessed are you with finding a QB" ireland says, we need to upgrade and get over the hump so of course we are to an extent "obsessed" with a qb, we are looking at a few people.

ON "Absolutely" wanting to upgrade the TE position - He was asked how much he would love to have a play making TE like finley etc. he said "well of course id absolutly like to have a guy like that, (like asking hey, would you like a private jet?) we have some guys we are developing and an established fasano who does a fine job - but you see how these guys are in the playoffs, IF we find any guys like that we will TAKE A LOOK AT THEM"

on what kind of key players he is looking at - he specifically points at the guy asking the TE question and says "my and your definition of key players may be different but i am looking for key players of course"

these interviews 1 on the miamidolphins site and one on miami herald are much different when taken in context.

now, i give the media credit for trying to increase credibility and excitment within the fanbase etc, and i think that ireland really may be looking to do any of these things - but dont think ireland has changed over night or is directly on par with the fan base's wishes, he is doing what they all do in that parcells/bellicheck vien, and he is just giving us all the run around, for better or worse. so dont get too hyped up.

Well, whatever he does it needs to produce noticeable results next year. This is his 5th offseason.

this is true - i would argue that we have seen positive changes every year since we took this roster over from the state it was in in 07.

the MOST questionable decisions have really been along the 0-line, and the improved players and even big play ability has not been accompanied by wins.

i know it seems like im scape goating at this point - but i honestly think some combination of HENNE/Sparano/Henning had alot to do with the losses. and im going to go out on a limb and say mostly henne, with sparano a VERY CLOSE and unforgivable second.

it's ireland's 2nd offseason. the 3 years prior to that had tuna all over them.

I have too be honest this post was way to long and I'm way too drunk to read it.

My hopes are on breakfast!

shouldnt be a problem, being that he's done it every other year..... i know you were around before big tuna took over..... We've had solid draft classes since then. Definitely more good picks than bad ! Pat White, PAtrick Turner, and Phillip Merling being the bad ones.

Ireland is a politician when speaking with the media. He just feeds the wolf.
Frankly, Ireland is not a risk taker. He will play it safe again.
I expect him to trade down one or two times in the first round.
The new staff probably want to get as many picks as possible to overhaul the team the way they see fit.

Works for me if we end up with one or more of Courtney Upshaw, Coby Fleener, Kendall Wright, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, or Dave DeCastro.

It's like ireland doesn't want to show his hand. You'd think he would rather give a detailed list of the fa's he wants and how much he's willing to pay. Why in gods name would ireland tell anything to the press. Do you really think other teams couldn't benefit from the infromation. Why not lay out the draft board to so the teams behind us can get theres set early.

Thats a cop out though. Parcells hand picked some ****ty players like White, but Ireland still had a very strong influence in the draft and FA.

Ireland plays it safe well I have seen enough of the other guys not playing it safe for the last 20 years to see a lot worse results. JJ drafted some defense but never hung around to see it pay off. It took 3- yeasr for JJ to pick up Sutain, Zach, Taylor and Madison. Name who else has done better than Ireland and going back to Marnio. We do not know what we have yet compared to that caliber but it will take some time to find out. Bess, Long, Pouncy, Wake, Carpender, Davis, Smith, Odrick and Langford have upside. That goes without mentioning the FA pickup these past 2 years with Dansby, Marshall and Barnett.

A strong influence does not mean control. IMHO, Ireland was the Vice GM until Big Tuna left. So much so that he could make the claim that Sparano was not his choice, but Philbin is. Obviously, he must produce — but he is going to have a longer leash than most fans wish. Ross trusts him, Peterson recommends him — that is important to Ross. Ireland was hired by Peterson and tutored by Parcells, Ireland may just be a combination of the two. Further, he was a kicker in college, and most kickers are nuts.

My early though is if the Fins don't sign the FA QB they want in the offseason, they go all in and try to trade up for RG3. They still may not have enough ammo to get there or be willing to trade a king's ransom. And Ireland knows that. He also knows, that he can have a direct influence on a majority of the offseason movement. What Ireland / the Fins do at QB in the offseason may be the domino that starts other teams moves at QB. Like Seattle, Washington, Cleveland.. With all that, he is going to play it close the the vest. Now, if they have landed a QB in FA (perceived #1 QB), then trade down and gaining multiple picks makes sense.

I like Ireland, and I expect a lot out of him this offseason. I think the Philbin hire instantly changed directions for the Fins and Ireland's reputation in some people's eyes.

the biggest problem with the last few drafts was tony and the rest of the coaching staff's inability to develope players, not jeff who brought players in.
