I know financially Surtain could have just destroyed our Cap situation now, and into the future.....and I must say...Sam Madison, seems to have turned back the clock...and is playing like he did in his prime...but had we had Surtain in the Jets game...well i wont say we would have won....but a couple of those completions would not have happened. The best thing about the Madison..Surtain shuttin down receivers...was it gave the D-line more time to wreck havoc while the QB had to make several reads to try to find someone open. Saban...said we didnt Jam receivers enough...or were not disiplined on those big pass plays...Surtain would have taken care of that. I MISS YOU SURTAIN......COME BACK PLEASE...

dont worry
unfortunately that's part of the deal...saban came in and turned a joke team into a average one in only one offseason. Our secondary is all but deep, though we could not be upgraded at all positions. If u think, next offseason saban will have less areas to upgrade, with more picks to deal with. And dont forget, we have Poole, that IMO has the potential to play at surtain's level and S. Mitchell, both injured now but will be back next season. And daniels will have one year of experience...
You miss surtain now, I miss him now. Though dont worry, we wont miss him next year.

losing will poole hurt tremendously

Amen to that. Reggie Howard just simply did not cut it last week. He wasn't bad against the Broncos, but the Jets were certainly picking on him.

IF our injured corners can come back strong and Daniels progresses the way he should our secondary will be a strength of the team next year. I'm not too worried about it even though I know it will cause us to gnash our teeth and weep and wail at times this year. In the long term big picture there are much more pressing needs to be addressed on this team.

I wonder how many of us, as fans, knew how bad Dave Wannstedt had left this franchise and how daunting of a job Nick Saban had ahead of him. With limited cap space and not a deep talent pool available in free agency it must have been overwhelming. Don Shula had a big job to build the franchise when he took the reins but at least he didn't have the cap restraints. IMO Saban will have success this year if he just keeps the Dolphins respectfull and keeps us out of embarassing games like last years 41-14 loss at the Jets. He still has a big job ahead of him but I think he has an excellent start.

totally agreed ;)
If u think, we lost to the jets,ok. but we played tough, close and lost the game because some things just cant be done in one day. People forget the jets have a contender team.We might not have a winning record this season though we wont be anihilated (sp?) at any game like we were last year. Thats improvement. some things can be immediately corrected, and those saban did. others dont.
We gotta wait to improve the o-line play, correct the penalties, get sync..ronnie still has long ways to go, not even mentioning ricky..
with wanny we had the feeling we would never be good enough to get a ring..now,when i wonder about the future of this franchise i feel pleased we have saban in charge, imagine what can be done in 3 years? we will be glad to have let surtain go

Must be me, but I don't miss Surtain. It was time to move on and Surtain wasn't getting any better. His play the last two years (especially last year!!) tailed off.

As stated, I must believe if we had Will Poole our secondary would be as good as if we had Surtain in there.

Maybe not AS good but a hell of alot better than Howard.

Well, I think the difference in play between if it was Surtain compared to Poole would not be significant enough to say it would change the game outcome.

Now Reggie Brown-Wilson-Cousins-Fletcher-Howard, yes.

Nah Surtain is a proven game breaker, we all know it. But Poole showed flashes last year of being a great CB. I'm on the fence but I see your point.

Amen to this....Wannstedt must be jinxed....he quietly...until last year...ran our team into the ground...with piss poor draft picks...and coaching mistakes. We must be able to find it in our hearts to give Saban the realistic time table to FIRST evaluate what was left over....which he has...and has gotten rid of the fat and lazy on this team....SECOND mold what was left over and newly added...and that my friends is why they say..."Rome was not built in 1 day"..or something like that. I read somewhere....that some Jet said...that this years dolphins were much more competitve and disiplined than last year. So we must just hang in there and enjoy the process that Saban will take to build a high quality team.
