I was riding my bike when I decided to stop and watch a Basketball game on a playground at one of the most visited park in Dominican Rep. One kid caught my attention. At first I though he was and old guy but when I started talking to his friends I found out he was only 19 years old. He was signed at 16 to a major league team but he was let go 6 moth ago cause of a elbow injury. He is lefty and was a pitcher. I got to talk to him he told me he weight 245 at the moment and is play alot of basketball. He lost some weigh cause of that. The kid was huge. Imagin if you take this kid who is athletic and get him to lift weigh and training for a couple of years put him to play in the cfl see how he develops. I garantee that out of 20 kids with potential you get a good player. Thats what baseball does. The NFL should star doing that.

I would like to know what some of you think about that?

Maybe, I should write to the Dolphins a become a scout for them. Can you guys imagin that me working for the Dolphins. I'll do it for free.

English obviously isn't your strong suit, however I do agree they need to look in other countries for talent. They already do it somewhat in the Samoans. They send scouts there every year from college and sometimes the NFL. There is a reason Samoans are so prevalent in the NFL.

Being big and athletic does not necessarily translate into NFL talent, just like raw speed dows not translate into football speed. If that were true, Reynaldo Nehemiah and, Willie Gault would be in the hall of fame along with James Jett. Also, football is not like baseball or basketball. Baseball and, basketball have international appeal on a cultural level that the NFL has not permiated.

FTP is refering to Cameron Wake in his sig. Wake is technicly not international talent, as he is an American, but, he was playing in the CFL, which at this point is the only leauge other than college where talent can really be evaluated.

It is not Sin to have English as your second language. But any ways, let me tell you a story. When I lived in Miami, I went to WCS ( Westmisnter Cristian School). I noticed that they were Americans kids in my class room with worst spelling grammar than I had. Maybe, I do have some mistake here or there. But that has nothing to do with English been anything.

I have never heard the nfl go to the Samoan Islands to recruit nfl football players. Sounds like you been hanging out with Ricky and Phelps too much.

Some players that play in the nfl that are of such heritage do come from 4 year universities from California such as USC etc. Most of those players are USA citizens born on our own very soil.

I understand your point there, But that also tell me that just because you think is a different sport than Baseball and Basketball that doesnt necessarily mean that there is no talent. Come on Bro, you don't have to be a genius to play. you need coaching and investment, and to set a camp here with kids that spent all day play sport it not the expensive and hard to do. Down here is not like before almost all this kid know how to speak your language and they are good athlety. And to tell you the truth, to play Baseball and Basketball is hard to make it to a major league team than any other sport, and I think Dominican kids have done pretty well. No matter if you are Alex Rodrigues born in the US or Samy Sosa. I hope you understand my point.

And he was playing in another country, "technicaly" international!

Definition: International, more than one Nation!

For those who don't understand the term.

This. The west coast and Hawaii has lots of Pacific Islander we heritage....Most of the guys we call "Samoan" would like calling me "Ukrainian" if I was drafted. My people are from the Ukraine.....Three generations ago.

Read the OP's post again. He was refering to players born and living outside the US.

In Wake's case, the team was international (In context to the US)....Not Wake. Wake is an American. One nation. If I am living and working in Germany, it does not make me a German. One could say, accurately, that the Dolphins have gone international with thier talent search, but, it's hardly a new thing.

Now if Wake is of dual citizenship, one could make an argument saying he is international talent. Actually, Yepremian, a Cyprot, would be a much better example of international talent.

Wake play at Penn his not International. International is going to a country get a Player that has never play in the US, like baseball does.

I didn't say that there was no potential talent in other places. There may well be. My point is; There are big, athletic guys everywhere. Scouts have no real context in which to evaluate them unless they play the game. I'm not Dominican, obviously, but if I'm right, baseball is pretty popular down there, right? I'm thinking I'm right on that...and Soccer is popular everywhere. Even most of the international players we have (Non-US citizens) played thier ball in the US. It's the only way there is to judge them.

What if for example, you take this kid at 18 years of age. his already 6'5" 245 pound. let say RAW material. Sometimes is better to be Raw than have some bad habits. His not going to college. You pay him a minimum of 24 a year and coach him for a couple of years taking him to be part of your practice squat and put him to play one or two year in the CFL. at 23 five years later you have a Football player. Maybe a first round pick but less expensive.
