I have always liked him. I was happy that they did not cut him last year after he got hurt. He has a chance to stay because of they have paid him over the past year and they are actually playing him in the preseason. To be honest, I had him cut two weeks ago. However, his play over the last two games has changed my opinion.

Here are some reasons I feel he should stay.
1. Savvy vet
2. Smooth cover corner when healthy
3. I feel comfortable if Smith or Davis got hurt, Allen could start (as opposed to Sapp)
4. Great mentor to Smith and Davis

He is playing well tonight and I too hope he stays!

cant argue with that. they say carroll looking worried on sideline. Great play by Allen in endzone and then later made some good plays. I think he passed the test. It would sure be nice to have a savy vet to stick around and make some plays in nickel and dimes. We need it vs. New England.

I think Allen's play effects Sapp more than Carroll to be honest. Maybe they just keep 6 CB's.

Carroll looks awful during this preseason. He has regressed in my mind. I have a hard time keeping him on the 53 with the way he has looked during games.

If they base his performance on preseason alone, then Carroll is gone. If they look at the progress he made last year than he stays. Caroll had a crap preseason last year also and improved dramatically as the year continued. His value on kickoffs is limited with the new rule as well. I dunno, he definitely isn't as safe as he was going into the preseason, atleast not in my mind.

Agreed. I had him as a lock going into the offseason. Crazy how things change. One has to wonder if the FO is choosing between Allen vs Sapp rather than Allen vs. Carroll.

jimmy wilson didnt look so hot tonight IMO. he didnt play with much pop.

Carroll has made some plays in preseason, its just has he had more negative plays than goo? Its not like he is looking really bad out there, just not playing instinctively it seems.

I think this maybe what they are thinking as well. Remember Carrol only makes like 400,000 this year . . . Allen makes 1.5 milion, Sapp 1.9 million. Don't know if they want those 2 high numbers as veteran backups and guys on one year deals while Carroll is ours for the next few years at a low number. I still think 6 CBs is possible at first, and maybe work a trade as the season moves on.

This assumes Jimmy Wilson is a lock, which may not be the case in the coaches eyes.

carroll has not impressed, will allen has proved he can still play at a high level if he can stay healthy, i say keep allen and sapp as our back up cbs. As for carroll i really dont know what to say, he has not been impressing at all in preseason. Clyde gates is proving to be something special, gates is a lock after tonight and larry johnson without a doubt has made this team.

We're still something like $5 million under the cap though. That's still plenty of money to sign a vet (or 2 or 3) should someone get hurt during the season.
