First, I just joined and just posted a long introduction letter. I'm also an Eagles fan, but I didn't join your board to bust anyone's chops or anything like that. I love talking football--good constructive conversation.

At any rate, I believe that when Spielman acquired Feeley, he really believed he could be a good QB--the trouble is, Wannstadt had too much allegience to Fiedler. In 2001, Feely came on for the Birds in a meaningless game against the Bucs at the end of the season. They were down by 10 with about 5 minutes left and Donnie Abraham was still in the game for the Bucs--at that time, he was a starting corner. Feeley drove the Birds down TWICE in the closing minutes to win 17-13.

In 2002, when McNabb and Detmer got hurt, he came on and went 4-1. The only loss was an OT loss to the Giants that should have been a win, except that David Akers missed a 35 yard FG in regulation and Feeley threw a questionable INT (Brandon Short absolutely mugged Chad Lewis) and the Giants won.

The rap on AJ was that he wasn't much of a practice player, but could do well in games.

When Saban took over and hired Linehan, it wasn't much of a secret that they were going after Frerotte. That had to erode Feeley's confidence even more.

The question you have to ask yourselves is this: How did this guy go 4-1 for a team that lost it's leader in the middle of a playoff run and then crap out in the space of 2 seasons?

Give it rest  AJ has done nothing but suck, for all intents and purposes, since he came here and people still want to defend what tiny tiny shred of positives he showed once in a blue moon.

If AJ is so good, don't you think HE may have taken it upon himself to play a bit better in the last 10 outtings or so for us he has performed in??????

the eagles had a great team. AJ was playing non playoff calibre teams when they went 4-1. Even then, his nos. when they won were average at best. The only loss they had was against a playoff team and he was horrible.

You can only play who's next on the schedule. Last season, among other problems, the Dolphins had no O line. I'd like to see what he could have done if you guys had a decent O line in fornt of him.

Welcome to the board rookie... if you do a search you will find heavy debate on the "AJ potential" debate.

Just about every aspect of his game has been debated.... happy searching!

But.. he didnt get a bum deal

he's had his chance this offseason and has been outplayed by the likes of Berlin and Sage. There were no excuses for him this time.

I'll give you two reasons:

1) When a team loses its leader and best player and is in the middle of playing for something big, the rest of the team steps up its play a notch to compensate. Feeley was the beneficiary of that in Philly.

2) Feeley may be best suited to the West Coast Offense, where the QB doesn't have to be as "creative." Plays in the WCO are "on a timer" so to speak -- the QB drops back and throws to a spot. He doesn't drop back and "create" a play, which means he isn't as subject to rushes, blitzes, and the like. There's no time to have "happy feet" in the pocket in the WCO -- the ball is outta there too soon. Feeley had none of this going for him in both offenses he played in here.

Take home message: Feeley is probably a career backup in a WCO. That's his value in the NFL -- nothing more.

Thanks for your post as an Eagles fan. I appreciate your viewpoint.

IMO, if Feeley was even an adequate NFL player, he would have the intestinal fortitude to play better himself. Unfortunately, the kid is lacking in so many necessary ingredients to be anything but a 3rd qb, and even there you'd prefer to have a guy with some level of potential someday, which AJ doesn't have.

He is inaccurate, mentally weak, slow, mentally dumb, doesn't practice well, and is ****y without having anything to back it up. Other than that, he is great.

Exactly why he isnt starting and why he wont be an NFL starter. Those sound like pretty big reasons not to start him.

AJ went 4-1 cause he was on the Eagles and their entire team and D was in tact. You could have put Fiedler in that situation and he also would have probably come out 4-1 or 5-0. Feeley is nothing special. It's quite the other way around. In practice, Feeley looks very decent, but when you put him in a game, the scared little girl in him comes out and he cant seem to find the strength to make the ball reach a 15 yard away receiver. Or if he's got a man open for an easy 6, it's either too short or too long. Can never hit anyone instride..Forget it..This is pointless..The man can't run an offense.

LOL, I just read my "mentally dumb" crack. I am sure you're thinking "as opposed to 'physically dumb.'"

What I meant is that he lacking in two different mental aspects: one is mental toughness, and the other part is football smarts.

Dont know if you looked lately but the Eagles have been to at least the NFC championship 3 or 4 straight seasons.
