Cover Corner
I want to see the WRs downfield on every pass play from today. One of these 3 is happening:
A) Everyone is covered REALLY well
B) Chad gotten this whole "completion % thing stuck in his head and doesn't want to take chances
C) Chad's arm strength is too weak
I feel it's a combination of B and C
There were pass protection problems, but there were also many plays where he just held on to it too long. You only need 3 seconds to at least attempt a fade route ONCE and let your players try to make plays. He refuses to force things. I don't care if Ginn is covered 1 vs 1, let him try and be a "playmaker" and toss it 40 yards down the field. We may even get a pass interference call in our favor!
If we are sticking with Pennington, we might as well start Camarillo and Hartline, because we can't utilize Ginn and his #1 asset (speed).
Have we hit a cap with Pennington? He took us to the playoffs last year and does make us a good team, but it's to easy to defense us as we never strech the field. We'll never be better than a 1st round playoff team with him at the helm. We need someone with more arm strength and willing to take a few chances to put the ball in a tight space, or more than 15 yards down the field. A 40 yard fade pass can help open things up, even if it falls incomplete.
