There are some coaching candidates being mentioned, like Gailey and Schottenheimer, who are solid regular season coaches. If hired, either one of them will make the Dolphins decent and get them to the playoffs rather quickly. However, neither one will ever get the Dolphins over the hump and into the Superbowl. They both can be outcoached rather easily. And guess what? Bill Belichick is sitting up there in New England and he will outsmart those two coaches 9 out of 10 times. This would mean that the Dolphins would have to play the perfect game against the Pats--every single time.
I see so many posters out there who are saying things like "I would love to have the Chargers season and go 14-2 and lose in the first round of the playoffs." Well, maybe that is better than we had this year, but we don't need to settle for that. If you asked Charger fans if they are happy with thier season, they would probably say "no way". They had the most talented team in football, and they lost because they were outcoached. We need to ask ourselves if Coach X can get the Miami Dolphins a Superbowl victory. If the answer is no, then Coach X needs to be eliminated as a candidate. If we settle for mediocrity, the Dolphins will never be better than mediocre.
