Awaiting the wrath of fellow finfans, I want to back Jeff Ireland to a point.

On September 7, 2010, Ireland assumed full command of operations on a day to day basis.

The 2011 NFL draft was Ireland's first in full command.
Dolphins 2011 Draft:-
Mike Pouncey
Daniel Thomas
Clyde Gates
Charles Clay
Frank Kearse
Jimmy Wilson

A good article on percentages of a successfull draft is http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/22699/good-draft-hit-rates-lower-than-you-think.

Polian states what he considers a successful draft regarding players who can contribute as, ' If you’re in the top 12, it ought to be in the .640 range'.
we drafted at 15 and regarding players who can contribute I would put it at 4 out of 6 which is a rate of .666.

Mike Reinfeldt's formula of 3 potential players worthy of starting, is a rate of .429.
Pouncey & Thomas are already starting and Clay & Jimmy Wilson IMO have the potential to start. If only 1 of Clay or Wilson pans out, with only six draft picks it equates to .500%.

What does not count in all these equations is how poor your team is. The poorer your team the more likely the higher success rate.

Dont get me wrong I am not sold on Ireland. The debacle with with Dez Bryant does not sit well with me, includeing Free agent signings and the continual roster turnover, but you cannot argue with the most recent draft, especially when you look how the draft panned out and who we could have taken at same spot.

Obviously Sparano is on his way out. The rumour is Carl Peterson is coming over, which may lead to the hiring of Bill Cowher. I am pretty confident that if Ireland continues to draft 3 potential starters each year & players who can contribute at a rate of .666, Cowher will make us very competetive.

Ireland is a schmo and will be fired after the season is over.,

He will be quickly forgotten much like Randy Mueller was totally forgotten the second he got canned by the Dolphins

The fridge needs to get a full clean. Ireland will be part of it.

Unfortunately Ireland's dealing with Bryant, his questionable Free Agent signings, and more impirtantly non signings... leave him vulnerable.

With a change as momentous as we're about to make, it would be difficult for me to see Ireland staying.

He picked a ****ing center in the first round...I don't care if he is even a pretty good center...he is still a center!!!

who ever backs ireland is an ahole this is the same guy who passed on dez bryant because of his mother

Hey, one question for you. Is you mother a prostitute?

Ireland could not rise to the occasion .. he's in over his head. Just like Saban screwed us by drafting familiar SEC players, Ireland has done the same or worse through his infatuation with Cowboys retreads and rejects. Whenever he needed to think outside the box (including ms Bryant's) he instead fell back on the same tired assumptions and familiar rosters.

The stench of Parcells needs to be exorcised from Davie completely. I will take great satisfaction as the public becomes more aware that everything Parcells touched here has turned into fecal decay. I cannot wait until the day when public perception finally catches up with that reality. Goodbye Jeff.

We don't need a genius at GM. Look at the Lion's GM Martin Mayhew (A Matt Millen Protege). He's draft the likes of Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Louis Delmas, Jahvid Best....Not to mention he seems to rip off other teams including his division opponents like the Vikings.

We just need a GM who is not way in over his head and tries to outsmaert himself, and Ireland seems to fit that role, considering he is a Parcells protege.

I dont care who stays or goes...kinda.....Just get me a damn QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant. He drafted a Centre. He questioned (wrongly) DB about his mother and he is a BP disciple. Yet nobody has stated that the 1 true draft he had total control over has not been, at present a success.

We have a possible rookie pro bowl centre, a RB avg 4.4 YPC, a starting H back & in my mind a nickel corner in one draft.

I think some criticize without putting any thought into it.
