There seems to be a nearly can't-miss position for the Miami Dolphins if they choose to go with the No. 14 pick in the NFL Draft: defensive tackle and Texas' Malcom Brown might be the man.

"I'm a big Malcom Brown fan," said Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com draft analyst and a former scout for Philadelphia, Cleveland and Baltimore.

"I think he'd be a great fit for [the Dolphins]. He's one of the guys we've got that can really get after the passer, but he can really hold up. He's a good point of attack guy as well. I would be all in favor of that."
Conventional wisdom says the Dolphins are favoring using their first-round pick on a defensive player. Defensive tackle, linebacker and cornerback are atop the wish list defensively.

At tackle, the Dolphins could lose Jared Odrick via free agency and Randy Starks (counts $6 million on the cap) to free up money on free agents. The Dolphins only have about $1.6 million right now.
One draft analyst thinks No. 14 might be a bit too high for Brown.

On the other hand, that's what people said about tackle Ja'Wuan James last year when the Dolphins took him at No. 19, and he turned out to be an excdellent pick. Regardless, everyone agrees Brown is a baller

"Malcom Brown, to me, is a first-round guy all day long," NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said. "Love his size. He's 6'2", 320. He's stout versus the run. He can push the edge, push the pocket. I think he'll go somewhere in the 20s, between 20 and 32."

Thats why you trade down twice and trade out of round one. Belicheat figured that out 2 yrs ago when he robbed the Vikings for 2,3,4 and 7 rd picks. sweeat!

I would rather him than the WRs after White and Parker if Shelton wasn't available either. I would not be ok with Eddie Goldman. I would rather trade down or Vic Beasley, Landon Collins, Shane Ray (and trade Wake away), Bernadrick McKinney, Shaq Thompson, Quinten Rollins or Marcus Peters. Please say no to Eddie Goldman. Absolutely no pass rush there.

It's an easy pick. More so than no clear pick, I'd say plenty of options. Nearly every defensive player plus the top 3 WRs are in play for us, whoever falls to us, so long as we don't out smart ourselves will be good. That being said, you just cannot ignore such a big flaw in a player like Goldman's lack of pass rush. We would either be picking a 2 down player, who will still be a liability when the offense passes in those downs or playing a misfit all three downs. Your first round pick should not limit your flexibility like that. Just look at Jordan.

I like Brown. I DO think there are other names that "standout" and for that I would disagree with Perkins.

yup... i am still thinking that ould be an option for us... just matters what names are around. we can obtain some nice 2nd rounders!!!

great player but if we resign Odrick Brown would be redundant. I think we need a 0-technique guy, so we don't get our asses run over(especially since I don't see a great MLB falling into our laps)

people who believe that the ability to trade down is an absolute certainty are fools. supply and demand my friend

I want to pick at our spot. Ireland used to wheel and deal to what effect? Hickey drafted 1st round talent in the 1st round last year. There's a reason to do this. The players are better. Scouts and tape and combine scores etc. show us who is the best. Pick at 14 Miami.

I honestly think Brown is one of the most likely picks for Miami. Base case scenario the Dolphins re-sign Jared Odrick and get another top flight guy like Dan Williams in free agency. But that could cost the team about $12 million between the two and that might be too expensive. Brown makes a ton of sense.
