Like many of you I am giving this Draft alot of thought and the truth is there will be excellent value when it is our turn to pick. This thought just came to me this morning about how Ferguson is going to be 35 and if he were to get injured we have absolutely no one behind him. We have plenty of LB and WR, but we have no DT outside of Soliai (sucks) and Cohen (PS) who might not be here at the begining of the season. So I said to myself if a DT like Evander Hood or Peria Jerry would be there at 25 would Miami take either of these guys. I hope Boomer or CK can give me there thoughts on this one and feel free to let me know what you guys think.

possibly, but for some reason I think we'd be more interested in Ziggy Hood than Jerry. Just a hunch

The need at DT is huge and I know Miami has showed interest in Ron Brace at the combine and have worked out Dorell Scott, Ricky Jean-Francois, Taylor, Vaughn Martin, Antonio Dixon and Dwayne Hendricks (DE in my book). If it is not addressed early it will at some point in the Draft.....

Our biggest need is at NT. I don't see a NT worth taking in the first 2 rounds. Neither Hood or Jerry are good fits for us.

I like Dorell Scott in the 3rd.

I like Vaughn Martin in the 7th. 40 Reps at 225 sold me.

Nicknamed "Vicious" by his teammates.

4.88 in the 40-yard dash … 1.61 10-yard dash … 2.79 20-yard dash … Bench presses 225 pounds 40 times … 32.5-inch vertical jump … 4.53 20-yard shuttle … 7.08 three-cone drill … 33 1/8-inch arm length … 10 3/8-inch hands.

This is B.J. Raji's combine stats;

Combine: 5.12 in the 40-yard dash … 1.69 10-yard dash … 2.93 20-yard dash … 4.69 20-yard shuttle … 7.90 three-cone drill … 32-inch vertical jump … 8'7" broad jump … Bench pressed 225 pounds 33 times … 32-inch arm length … 10 3/8-inch hands.

Well, let's take him as well. The more the merrier.

Why wait so long (7th)to get a player like "Vicious", and risk not getting him, when NT is such a need?

I was thinking the same...but you don't want to over pay...it could be a reason why Parcells has so many trade prospects out in the news...perhaps he see's Beck worth for this kid. If Parcells can pick up another 5th or 6th rounder...that would certainly help.

You know, there was an interesting tidbit in Ireland's recent press conference regarding finding players to particular schemes.

We all know that roughly half the NFL is now running some version of the 3-4. Ireland acknowledged that and stated that that definitely goes into their draft strategy. He also stated that going to the 3-4 was an advantage even as little far back as when Dallas did because it still wasn't a popular scheme. Think back when Ware and Merrimen went back to back at 11 and 12. If that same 2005 draft were to happen today, no way do those guys fall to 11 and 12 because of the huge need for OLB. I'm saying this even if we had no idea what type of players they would become. A guy like Casey Hampton that went 1-19 or Vince Wilfork that went 1-21 probably don't fall that far in this draft (again without knowing their NFL futures).

However, Ireland did say that it is best to choose players that were not just one dimensional guys or in other words fill one position at one particular scheme. Take for instance Tony McDaniely, or Randy Starks or even Philip Merling. Those are guys that can fit in either the 3-4 or 4-3. It's interesting to hear and makes me think that even if prospect like Hood or Perry may not fit the tradition 3-4 scheme that may not matter because they could present the best value at 25. Why pigeon hole oneself? If that does happen, it clearly means that our 3-4 scheme may in for some adjustment. I'd welcome it because it's going to be awfully tough to find the right nose tackle and right outside linebacker or even inside linebackers in today’s draft landscape.

perry and hood would be the "5" technique in a 3-4 defense and we dont need that position, we have merling and langford and starks playing there.

yeah, but how are his intangibles? His arm length, his ability to use his hands, his feet? he could be great, but he could also be a workout warrior.
