I think we can all agree that Ronnie Brown could potentially be a great running back.

But regular season games are not training camp. We should have the best players starting, which give us the best chance to win.

Right now, Sammy Morris is the better runner, and Ronnie Brown is the better receiver.

So for now, I think Sammy Morris should be the starting RB with most of the carries, and Ronnie Brown can come in as 3rd down RB.

Playing behind Sammy Morris would give Ronnie Brown more time to mature, become more decisive & explosive, learn the offense, without hurting our chances to win.

morris is only looking good because he is the second back

that allways happens.... your third down back usually has a better average because the defense isnt keying on him

you saw what saban thinks of them when backed up against goalline he had ronnie on the bench.

igor has it right, everyone always thought Travis Minor was going to be this spectacular back because he always had more YPC than the regular starter de jour, but that's simply because he's a change of pace back, much like the role we used Sammy Morris in yesterday. If Brown is still struggling by week 5 you can bet Ricky will get a lot of touches. However, the best way to develop a player (so long as he's mentally tough) is to throw him into the fire. I already posted some bust-like stats for Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith from their rookie years. You just have to have patience. I know Dolphins fans aren't known for that, but the Shula years left us spoiled and it's time we learn it.

if morris was good enough to be a starter, you wouldnt have drafted a RB with the # 2 overall pick.

ROOKIES ALWAYS NEED TIME TO MATURE AND LEARN HOW TO PLAY AT THE NFL LEVEL!!!!!

hes the starter because hes the best you have right now. this isnt rocket science... :shakeno:

now way, I disagree....Sammy Morris has looked good all training camp long, he scored for us last week and he had the best runs on our team last night....like the first post of this thread said, right now, Morris should be #2...

You have to give the ball to the guy who is producing until proven otherwise.

No one responds when you post similar statistics for other backs that went on to be great, you could actually include Ricky Williams first few games.

I am a new doplhins fan here, AU grad and I watched Ronnie and Carnell their whole careers, both are and will be great backs. Im really dissapointed with what im seeing here from some of the fans. I hope you are a minority. If the majority of fans think Ronnie is a bust so quickly then frankly you dont know what you have and you dont deserve him.

1) Sammy Morris averaged 4.0 yards/carry last season.

2) Sammy Morris didn't run on 3rd down against the Jets. All his carries were on 1st or 2nd down.

3) Rushing stats aside, Sammy Morris looks far more decisive.

Ronnie Brown has more eventual upside. But until he matures, I think Sammy Morris should get most of the carries.

then how does he mature? Magic?

Even though he will get a lot of playing time whether he's starter or not, there's a very good chance Ronnie Brown will not be the starter of this team when Ricky Williams returns from his suspension. But like I said... he will still be getting quite a bit of playing time as will Morris during Ricky's suspension.

But regular season games shouldn't be used as training camp. If a player needs time to develop, he shouldn't be the starter. Like Steve Young developing behind Joe Montana, and then eventually going on to be a great quarterback himself.

I think the best players that give us the best chance to win should be the starters. Players that need time to mature/develop can play as backups until they're ready for the starting job.

I'm not saying that we should completely bench Ronnie Brown, and give up on him. I just think Sammy Morris should be the starter, and get most of the carries for now. Ronnie Brown can come in on 3rd downs, catch, block, and even play a few full series here and there. He'll still get carries, some on 1st & 2nd down. And when he's ready, worked out his flaws, learned the offense better, then he can take the starting role and be our every down back.

Practicing with NFL players.
Working with coaches to eliminate out his flaws.
Learning the offense better.
Getting some carries in NFL games.
Playing some full series in NFL games.

And that is what he is doing.

That would be true if we were complaining that he was confused in pass protection, or couldn't catch, or couldn't run good routes. However, we are talking about running with the football. He should be able to that reasonably well, without needing a full camp, or "time to develop". He better already have "developed" some running ability before we selected him #2.

All of which can be done with Sammy Morris as the starter, and getting most of the carries.
