He better do it quickly. This is not something that can linger while he consults with Hickey and Aponte for weeks. We have the combine in a couple of weeks and we have to have people in place to evaluate. I am tired of this ****. Every year it is something new that screws up the continuity of the team. It seems as though we are always taking one step forward and two steps back.

Ross should write a book on how not to run an NFL franchise

More steps back if this happens. More media scrutiny. More elongated media coverage.

I have come across as a Ross apologist but only due to my reasoning. Ross has done nothing to garner my affection and believe me when I tell you his coming or going does not impassion me in any way, shape or form. What incites my defense is the honest belief that this guy has no blame and even amidst this **** storm we made a playoff push.

I dont know about you guys but the day this fiasco broke I got heavily drunk and toasted to another season filled with disappointment. But it wasnt entire disappointment. There were flashes of hope. We beat very good teams. We hung in most every game. The Dolphins, despite all of crap that we were facing made Sundays interesting again. And I was grateful for that. I was inspired. With a solid oline, the return of a defense that has been stellar at times, innovative play-calling, and a connecting Tannehill/Wallace; we will see the playoffs. We were mere overthrown passes away from the playoffs in the midst of this debacle. How can you not see that?

On a scale, for me, the balance tips on giving Philbin another year. It doesnt tip by much but it does tip in his favor.

And now, just for the sake of getting our names out of the media, dont create another wave in this tsunami.

Every year it is something new that screws up the continuity of the team.

We've averaged a 7-9 record for the past five years. I'm not advocating that Philbin be fired, but we need need something to screw up the continuity of this situation.

I don't think Philbin is the right guy for this team, but I don't advocate firing him now. For one, we already got Hickey specifically to work with him. Lazor came here to work with Philbin, not some other coach. And what coach would want to hop into this mess at this point. Also, while I do fault Philbin for not having a pulse on the dynamics of the team, ultimately he had very little culpability in this mess as Martin never came to him with the harassment allegations.

Ross won't fire him anyway.

Maybe the situations aren't analogous, but if Belichick survived Spygate and Payton survived Bountygate, then why should Philbin be fired? It seems paradoxical to say that Philbin should be fired for not knowing whereas Belichick and Payton survived despite knowing. It sounds as though those that think Philbin deserves to be fired are using Bullygate as more evidence of perceived incompetence and his inability to become a successful head coach. I think that is a specious argument. I think where Philbin is at fault is in delegating too much responsibility to all assistant coaches. That's easy to see now with the benefit of hindsight, but a priori that would be the type of structure that people would want to work under. I know that I performed my job better when working for a delegator rather than a micromanager.

Are you kidding me, Ross is rubbing Joe's feet right now. Dude ain't going anywhere anytime soon. They could find child porn on his computer and Ross would blame it on Gaine or Ireland. Face it folks, Joe is in tight.

but we need need something to screw up the continuity of this situation.

Have we not been doing this for a decade? Saban was the forceful genius to be our savior. Cameron was the offensive genius that would solve our offensive woes. Parcels was the proven genius that was finally going to end the suffering. Mind you, all of these gets were homeruns at the time.

We blame Ross for not hitting homeruns but the truth is that we have been severely unfortunate as an organization. You can believe it or not. Some stand by the ardent belief that one creates their own luck. thats bull$hit. Luck is a relevant part of life and we have been unlucky. We've hit "homeruns" with hires only to see failure. Who knows why? What is the science?

The truth is that we can debate it to no end, lift strong opinions, and regurgitate statistical analysis to no end but in the end, we have no idea what life will throw at us.

Keep Philbin, fire Philbin. Does anyone really have a clue?

I am not saying that he should get fired, but knowing Ross the more media, the more pressure Ross is going to feel.

Let's cut to the chase, Dolphin fans who want Philbin to take the fall actually want him gone for other reasons. And even if this somehow happens, i don't have the least bit of confidence in the organization being able to get anyone better, particularly at this point...

Philbin will not be fired because of this. Remember, Philbin wanted Incog cut at the end of the 2012 season and Ireland insisted that he return. That is well known. Philbin was right in the end.
The Wells report was not critical of Philbin, he had plausible deny ability. Philbin seems aloof on the sideline, it is not out of his character as the head coach of this team to be detached from the locker room.
Ross like Philbin, and Lazor and Hickey took the job knowing that Philbin was the HC.
Ireland was fired, incognito was released, and Martin will likely be traded or released. Pouncey will likely be shopped due to his unsavory associations and the potential for drug issues going forward. If Pouncey cannot be traded, he will likely play out his last year.
Philbin will be the coach for at least 5 years. Like it or not.
I would have rather had Lovie Smith or another coach that had previous success that needed another chance. I am not a fan of on the job training at HC.

I am not saying that he should get fired, but knowing Ross the more media, the more pressure Ross is going to feel.

The fans and media had been pressuring Ross to fire Ireland since 2011. That included two planes flying around games with banners. It also included a confrontational moment between Ireland and a fan. Ross still almost kept Ireland this year.

I don't think Ross is one to succumb to outside opinion on firing Philbin, especially when the Wells report clears Philbin of any wrong doing. Now some fans and media are using grey area to blame Philbin for not knowing, but there are plenty of people who back up the idea that a head coach probably wouldn't have known what was going on. The guys on NFLN made good points why a head coach wouldn't know and Bryant McKinnie who was in the locker room went out of his way to tell people that Philbin deserves no blame.

What that all means is that while some think Ross should fire Philbin over this incident, there are just as many who don't think he should. This offseason is already in full force, so making a head coach change at this point would just make this situation even worse.

Ross did set this season up that he can easily pull he plug and clean sweep next January if he wanted to. He aligned Hickey's contract with Philbin so they now appear tied together. If he clean sweeps next January, Ross will likely have his pick of "star" head coaches.

That was very shrewd indeed. The man is finally getting his **** together and running this team. Prove you belong or hit the door.
