they would have reviewed it. you think the refs would overturn it because of a forward lateral? was there conclusive evidence of it being forward? considering its the steelers and the game was in pittsburgh i can almost guarantee they wouldnt have overturned it.

I wouldn't have been surprised if they didn't even see that forward lateral. If it was a TD and they reviewed it and upheld it, I imagine this site would disintegrate into the soil.

it was a forward lateral, but like phinz said they probly would have upheld it, bc well its against the racist bully team. i don't think the steelers were set at the snap ether. but i haven't watched it since the game

Originally it looks like a clear cut forward lateral. But the camera angle wasn't straight down the line. I saw the referee standing there, and that he didn't throw a flag. At that point I became nervous.

If you watch the replays and stop the frame at the point Roethlisberger is releasing the ball, you can see it's not a definitive forward lateral. His right arm is extended forward, along with his hand. The ball is several feet beyond his frame. I think all of us were focusing on his frame and assumed it was a blatant forward lateral.

The ball traveled virtually parallel. It might have been 6 inches forward, as KTOWN accurately summarized in the long thread. Might have been, but not absolute. That's not going to be enough for a reversal.

Barring a blown extra point, we lose if Brown doesn't wander out of bounds. Nothing was going to bail us out.

It was a pretty clear forward lateral, close to a yard forward. Much as I agree that teams like the Steelers get all the calls, I am pretty sure it would have been overturned on review. Watching live, I didn't panic (much) because I just assumed that it would get picked up on review. It was closer in replay than it looked live, but still clearly forward. Justice was done. And, it was illegal procedure against the Steelers (WR moving at the snap) so the foot out of bounds saved the officials a potential disaster if they had refused to overturn it.

It wasn't a touchdown. What if doesn't matter

I'd definitely be in a deeper and more protracted funk than the 4-5 days it took me to find my way back here - or to watch sports cable after that awful Buffalo clusterfork I had the misfortune of seeing in person.

I don't think they can call a penalty during a review?

On judgement calls, no, but whether or not a pass is forward is not really a judgement call, it either is or it isn't and a replay can examine that. A similar challenge did happen this year versus SD, where Rivers threw a forward pass beyond the LOS.

Though I didn't think about it at the time, had the play been ruled a TD, it still would have been reviewed automatically, and if Philbin was worth his weight those refs would have been looking at the pass too.

Interesting glad it didn't get to that but not happy at defense for getting caught with their pants down on that play!

The players never set at the line, potential forward lateral, dear lord Brown saved the refs from embarrassment.
