Since there isn't really much else to talk about regarding the Dolphins other than the usual circus stuff, I figured it was worth starting an offseason type of thread.

There have been many Matt Ryan lovers around here over the years as if he would have been the savior for this moribund franchise. However, once again Matt Ryan is struggling in Atlanta with a much more talented roster than we've seen here since 2008.

So for this mental experiment, imagine the only difference was that rather than Long being selected in 2008 with the first overall pick, it was Matt Ryan. Would he still be here today?

I think he would have been run out of town long ago. In ATL he was the beneficiary of some excellent offensive talent, he would have had dung heap players here. His deficiencies would have been exposed much earlier and he would be a journeyman QB somewhere else IMO.

Maybe, maybe not-- still would have been a better pick than Jake Wrong who also isn't here anymore.

Still think we should've drafted him, but who knows how he would've faired with our coaches, receivers, etc.

Having a HOF TE definitely helped him early on. As well as having an elite weapon in Julio Jones. He would've had neither here in Miami.

We would still be here. Ryan is showing the last couple of years that he needs help around him just as much as Tannehill. With the idiots we have had in the FO, they would not have gotten him that help...

I think the team wouldn't be much different. The O-line would have been awful his first few seasons, without Jake Long. However, instead of taking Chad Henne and Patrick White, maybe we would of used those 2nd round picks on solid starters......but that's doubtful.

But honestly, Matt Ryan isn't all that much better than Tanny. He has had better coaches (by far) and better players around him. The only things that I would say he is better at is his attitude/leadership and his ability to win some games under pressure. But statistically, they are very similar.

At the time of the draft, Long was the right pick. If he continued to play the way he did his first 3 seasons, he would be on his way to a HOF career. You have to take that guy. Too bad injuries ended his dominance.

Im still wondering what would have happened if we had taken someone other than Tedd Ginn....

Really tough to tell, not only would that selection have dramatically altered the rest of the picks in that draft, but it also would've impacted picks in all of the following drafts up to/including 2012 at the very minimum. So...:idk:

Matt Ryan isn't a great qb, but he's a good qb.

Him and Tannehill are eirely similar. Can't win alone and when his team is good can put up elite numbers.

I've always said Tannehill can be just like Matt Ryan and up to this point in their respective careers they're a lot a like personal #s wise.

You always go for the QB when in need. Hindsight doesn't change that, especially in this case.

We would have had 2 seconds and a 1st that we used on qb's to try to fix other areas. But we would have probably wasted the picks or traded those players for lower round picks anyway. The organization is a disaster.

It would have bought Sporano at least one more year.
