No you don't play who gives us the best chance to win. I don't care if McCown edges out John Beck in the preseason, it's pretty obvious he's not our QB.

I know it's been said already, but we need to see what John Beck has. If he looks like a complete idiot a couple games in throw in Henne. What is McCown going to do for us realistaclly.

And somebody answer me this cause I hear it all the time: how the hell does is stunt your growth as a player to start as a rookie? If anything that should give you a feel for the game no?

IMO if the Front office doesn't play who gives us the best chance to win.....then they will be morons. I am as big a Beck supporter as there is. I would love to see this kid pan out and be a starter for years. However, I am not so into seeing this kid play that I would want him to start no matter what. If Henne is the best then he should start. If McCown is the best then he should start. If Beck is the best then he should start.

I also think that starting a rookie who is not ready to start could seriously hamper the players confidence so much that he may never get it back thus hindering his development. On the other side, starting a rookie who begins with some success could, undoubtedly, speed up his development.

I have faith the the coaching staff/Front office are very very smart "football people". They will pick the best QB that provides us the highest probability to be successfull and I will support that player 100% come Gameday not matter whom it may be.

i support beck 100% and i also think we need to give him a shot.....

but how could you say this ??? they've been evaluating beck for 7 months now.... if they dont start Beck, they made that decision for the best of the team, not because "he aint a parcells guy"....

Starting Beck just because we used a 2nd on him and he has great tools and determination is moronic.... Whomever plays Qb the best will start IMO. Beck can look like a young Eli and show flashes of greatness, but if McCown looks like the all around better quarterback come september... he'll get the nod. Same for Henne !!

I do think John Beck will EARN the starting nod b4 the season tho.

I too am rooting for Beck, BUT only if he wins the competition fairly. I want whomever reflects the best chance of helping us to develop into a cohesive, winning offense (not necessarily who can win the 1st few games only). Given that, if the coaching staff considers it a toss-up between Beck and McCown, in that case I'd agree that we need to start Beck based on their relative potential to be the long term starting QB - not to mention that McCown's already established himself over 6 seasons as a turnover machine.

People you do realize we start off the season with the same record as anybody else. We need to start the qb that performs best in preseason and training camp, we dont need to just give away games early in the year to see what somebody has. If our coaches start Beck and he did not outplay the other two qb's than they are definately morons but they have stated from the beginning that all three qb's have a chance so they seem to be much smarter than given credit for.

Peyton Manning played his rookie season. He did horrible, but said in an interview that he learned a great deal in his rookie season.

Maybe it's true that a qb's confidence will be "scared" if he starts his career with a bad start...

But, If that is true then...

Beck should be scared for life.

and

you want a qb who can bounce back (Like manning did) If a qb can't bounce back from a horrible season then he's not a franchise qb.

I would start henne because…

he has played in the pro style offense down at Michigan

He is the only qb who has the potential to be our franchise qb

And unlike beck, Henne has the ideal size to be at the qb position and can take a beating if he has too.

and finally, He’s the youngest qb

START HENNE PLEASEE!!

I fail to see how Henne is our ONLY QB WITH POTENTIAL TO BE A FRANCHISE QB. I am not saying he does not have the potential, however, I think Beck also has the same potential to be a franchise QB.

"Moron" is a strong word and if anyone thinks that Beck had not been scrutinized at nausea prior to the Henne drafting they are a fool... The FO knows what they have in Beck... Has he floored hell no but..., likely a career back-up mop up guy... Bill is looking for MOJO... Beck lacks that... prof is in the pudding they drafted appeals to me as a physical favre clone instead of a CB or WR... FO ain't as stupid as the finheaven clones think...

You absolutely have to play the QB that gives us the best chance to win and if Beck and Henne are not good enough to win the starting job, then they don't deserve to be the starter for this or any other team in the NFL.
How is it pretty obvious that McCown is not our QB?

We will see what Beck has during training camp and the preseason games. We will know if the game has slowed down for him or as you said "looks like a complete idiot." As far as starting Henne if Beck fails...once again it comes down if he is ready and has earned it.
And somebody answer me this cause I hear it all the time: how the hell does is stunt your growth as a player to start as a rookie? If anything that should give you a feel for the game no?
You should start a rookie QB only if they have players around them to take off some of the pressure of being a starting QB in the NFL.

All I'm saying is if McCown couldn't get it done in the weak *** NFC with that supporting cast, you think he's going to get it done here? Maybe he'll make me eat my words but I don't see that happening.

Some of you dudes who are saying, "we should start whoever gives us the best chance to win" are the same dudes saying "just say no to favre" and favre gives us a better chance to win then anyone on the roster.

Farve will never come to the miami. 0% chance of it happening. He wants a superbowl ring before he retires. Although I think miami will go to the playoffs this year I'm sure farve doesn't believe that (Heck, alot of people here don't believe that)

mccown was brought in for competition. if he sees the field, then it didn't work out as planned. we drafted henne because it was obvious that beck might not be the guy. if beck sucks again this year, then we've got henne waiting in the wings. if he doesn't, then we have our QB (finally) and one with potential to boot - not a bad thing.

just my opinion - but i really don't think mccown was brought in to play. to be a back up? absolutely.
