we have to throw money at this guy to get him! he is only 26 years old. Cut M. Booker and use that money + some of the money we have to of cap space to get this guy.

"After an eight-interception campaign in '06, Asomugha followed with just one pick in 2007, but he was rarely thrown at by an enemy quarterback or beaten by an opposing receiver. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder was picked on just 28 times all season long, and he allowed only 10 catches. As a result, Asomugha finished off the year with a meager 34 tackles and one INT".

that was during the 2006-2007 season

"the Raiders play about 95 percent man coverage, meaning Asomugha is on an island by himself on nearly every play. He has rarely been beaten this season, rarely gets safety help over the top and already has a career-high seven interceptions."

We also draft a rookie who can corver man to man to play the nickel.

I agree, however I think the raiders will do what they can to keep him, but hey if not I would be down for throwing money at a player of his skills and age.

completely agree. he's one of my favorite corners in the game. i'd throw nate clements money at him and draft linemen in april.

I'll complete your sentence.

"If the Raiders don't tag Nnamdi Asomugha, he should be on Wayne's 737 at 12:00 March 1st."

I dont buy this "we arent one player away" garbage. A guy like this is young and in his prime, and would make an immediate impact. Not only in the secondary, but imagine the more complex blitz schemes you could come up with with JP and JT who never really were used to their potential this season, when you have a shutdown corner. It would be a huge move. Money isnt an object, we have plenty of it. You sign this guy if he is available.

With that said, I highly doubt he hits the market.

I agree with you. Any team, playoff caliber or not, without at least one very good CB is like a boxer with one arm going against a champ. There's almost nothing you can do to make up for the mismatch.

I just want to note Nnamdi is the player I bring up whenever someone shows impatience with Jason Allen. He didn't break out until his 4th year, and he was yanked around similar to Jason with changing positions. He is a great player.

We definitely need help in the secondary. Other teams will be after him also.

if im the raiders. i keep this guy by all means neccesary. shutdown corners in this league are rare. and he is one of the best if not the best.

The only way they won't tag him is if they sign him first. No way they let Nmandi just walk away without getting anything in return. With that said, I would be all ears if they were to offer him in a trade to move up to #1, but there is a better chance of lightning striking all of us simultaneously.

Well, we aren't one player away, we're many playrs away from being a playoff team. While I agree that a shutdown corner such as Asomugha will do wonders for the defense and allow players like JT and Porter more freedom to rush the QB, this team's biggest problem is stopping the run. What this defense really needs is some beef upfront. After that, we need a TE, at least one legit WR, some OL help, a few LB's, and a few fresh faces in the secondary. We need alot of help before we are a contender again. IMO

This is a rebuilding team, not a retooling one, that approach rarely works. I honestly think we are 2 years away from respectability. I'm willing to endure the pain if it means that this rebuild is done the right way and we end up with a better future.

I love the idea of signing one of the big free agent corners or trading for one like D. Hall. Personally, I want Marcus Trufant. He'll be cheaper and the guy has been making plays every year up here in Seattle and has gone pretty much unnoticed until this season. If he gets out of Seattle alive, I want to throw the house at him. Unfortunatley, I've heard that reports that the Seahawks are prepared to throw the check book at him.

If we can lock up a guy like Trufant, Asomugha or DeAngello Hall and draft one of the big corners in this corner heavy draft, we'll have a 3 headed monster for the next 2 years and then when Will Allen leaves, we'll have a 3rd year guy with Hall/Trufant/Asomugha.

EDIT: My dream scenario is to have Will Allen and Marcus Trufant as our starters this year with Terrell Thomas (USC selected with the pick we received from the Chargers) in the nickle spot.

Trufant found his success this year when he got shifted to the 2 slot. Will Allen is already a terrific #2 Corner that is forced to play as the number 1. If we add a Samuel or Asomugha or draft someone who can turn into a 1. It will make our team stronger. Trufant is a decent one but is an incredible 2.

Yeah there is nothing wrong with using free agency to make your team stronger. Everyone always says build through the draft, which is true, but if a guy is young and talented there is no reason not to go after him. I'd LOVE Trufant. One of my favorite (and of the most under rated) corners.

Yeah, I'd be shocked if they let him walk. A trade though? Maybe old Al Davis would like McFadden? I'd trade down with them for a young elite CB, the #5 pick, and their third rounder.

We can draft DT Frank Okam in the second round to play NT, and get the best LT (assuming Jake Long is gone) remaining, which would probably be Otah at #5. Get the best TE left with the Chargers second rounder.

Fix the OL and DL and everything else gets better. Why hesitate to get a great young CB, even when rebuilding, since he'll be around for 4-5 years?
