Can someone tell me the reasoning behind drafting Patrick Turner in the 3rd Round (I'm a USC fan) when his projected skills-set would equal to what we already had in London who was one of our better special teams players?

What's the difference in height between the two?
Who has better hands?
Who is faster?
Who is a better route runner?
Who is tougher?
Who is already a good special teams player?
Who was drafted with a high 3rd round pick and can't even make the active roster (as of Sa 11/14/09)?

What was the reasoning with drafting Hartline in the 4th round behind Turner when you still had Wilford as a question mark when you ONLY CARRY 4 RECEIVERS on the active roster?

What if Wilford had become the player we expected when we first signed him?

In other words we spent 2 high draft picks on receivers that would not have been on the active roster if Wilford had panned out like they expected when we could have used those 2 picks as well as our 2nd round picks on other positions and players.

Our 2nd round pick of Pat White and our 3rd and 4th round pick of Turner and Hartline appears to have been BRAIN FARTS by our personnel department who have made poor to questionable draft picks after the 2nd round in each of their drafts!!

Note: I do like Hartline. I think he'll be a GOOD WR, just not very very good or great. We had too many of those types already.

They had 5 Wr's on the team last year but they liked Lex so much that they only kept 4 this year..........And Lex has been good on ST so far.

I too was upset to see London go, anyways.

Patrick Turner has about an inch on London.
Not sure who has the better hands.
London ran a faster 40 time.
Omar who was a BIG fan of London's,,,, said Turner was the better of the two as a route runner.
I'd have to go with London as the tougher of the two.
And we both know London's the better ST player.

They just messed up with the WR's because going into last years draft they knew they liked 3 of their WR and now they are back to only liking 3 because we all know they are going to take what they can get for Ginn before the draft.

Here's some more on him """Scouting report: At the Senior Bowl, one report said he was not particularly fast and not particularly tough while another said he showed surprising speed that week. He also dropped several passes at the Senior Bowl. There’s a chance that because of his size, people expect more. The USC wide receiver busts in the NFL don’t help with receivers coming out of that program.""" http://www.examiner.com/x-3103-Miami-Dolphins-Examiner~y2009m4d26-5-things-to-know-about-Patrick-Turner-the-Dolphins-thirdround-choice

I heard Omar talking on the WQAM this week about how Turner can't get off the line when Jones is on him..........and Jones is 1/2 a foot shorter than him and 30 pounds lighter. So toughness, seems to be a big deal with this guy,or lack of.

On the bright side Jeff Ireland said he see's alot of Marques Colston in Turner.

The other part to remember is if Bill, Jeff, and Tony only bat 300 with their drafts that's still VERY GOOD.A'lot of people on this site don't seem to understand that.

I think they were hoping Ted Ginn would take a big step this year... and they were right just wrong about what direction.

My point is that we drafted a player so similar to one that we already had who supposedly has trouble getting off the line of scrimmage, is slower, and had some drops issues during post season evaluations.

I would think we would have been better COACHING UP London and using the pick for another area of need that could contribute in one way or another immediately.

If they keep batting .300 in the Draft we'll keep going 3-5 especially if they continue to be cheap and shy away from the PLAYMAKING PLAYERS AND POSITIONS in free-agency.

London couldn't catch a cold in camp. Hartline was a better receiver and showed enough on special teams to make London expendable.

what if Wilford became the player they expected??? how long do you think they should have waited? the guy had more than enough time to show something and couldn't. he would have been gone last year if not for the big cap hit.
imo, Turner and Hartline have what it takes to play in this league but both need a little seasoning. let's give them more than a few games to show it(if I had a dollar every time I had to say that...).

Like i said Jeff Ireland said he see's alot of Marques Colston in Turner.............a BIG WR that can make "cuts" of a much smaller man, London could not do that.

Turner is a Big guy that can play small, London is a big guy that can't play small.

Batting .300 in the draft will put just about any team in the playoffs!!!!Heck some of the best drafts from years past are not hitting on every 3rd guy, Like i said some here don't understand "U" what makes a good draft.

Jake Long
Phillip Merling
Chad Henne
Kendall Langford
Donald Thomas
Lex Hilliard
Lionel Dotson

Vontae Davis
Pat White
Sean Smith
Brian Hartline
Chris Clemons

So there you have 12 names form 18, picks that are getting playing time.So they are doing much better then only hitting on 1/3 of the guys.................and again 1/3 is VERY GOOD.

Fins doing great drafting...all teams, even the best ones like Pitt, NE and Ind have so called bust picks, guys that are released after a year or two....sometimes they go for talented athletes, who can't do it at the pro level, but you need to bring them in because if you don't you won't have a talented team...hartline is a good football player, but Turner & White has the greater potential to be studs down the line...you gotta take chances on guys like that, but they don't work alot, but if you don't try to develop them you are left with a bunch of good solid players, not great ones which is a recipe for mediocrity....8-8, 9-7
