Assuming we can sign Drew Brees, what do you think about our QB situation for the future? Brees is what 28? So hes got some good mileage left on him. I feel at some point we need to spend a middle rounder on a QB, so we can develop him to give ourselves more options for the future. Do we spend a late rounder this year? Would that be an insult to a new guy coming in? Or do you feel it would be a wasted pick?

I think if we get Brees, that we will still take a QB somewhere in the draft. Probably not the first round, more likely Croyle or Whitehurst in the 2nd or 3rd. I think that is probably a good idea since it takes some rookies awhile to develop plus you never know what can happen to your starter. Look at Tommy Maddox and Ben Rothlisberger.

it would be smart to get Croyle or Whitehurst this year or we should get a QB in a mid round next year for sure

Assuming Brees is healthy (I don't think we would sign him if he wasn't) QB becomes a locked up position. We have way too many other needs on D and o-line to be spending early picks on a QB. If we spend a 5th-7th rounder on a developmental guy with some potential I wouldn't be too upset but we have many holes to fill at this point.

Agree about us having too many needs, but we already spent a 6th from this years draft on a development guy in Lemon. Don't see us drafting a QB at all if we get Brees. Think we'll look for a veteran backup if Frerotte won't restructure. And go with Brees-Frerotte/veteran-Lemon.

we need to bring in a QB regardless of who comes in, if we get Brees than that just means we will take a QB later than we would without him.

ingle martin looks pretty good at the combine and we could get him in the 6th round or soemthing.

IF we sign BREES, the highest we would likely use on a QB would be a 6th ...

You have to count on Drew for at least 4 years at 27 / 28 ...

I'd have to think we'd keep a 'cheap' veteran around for a backup ...

Brees at 28 could Very Realistically have 7 more very good years left in him. 4 at the very very least, and If we were to draft a QB he'd probably be off the roster by the time Brees skills started to decline. I think if we wind up with Brees it's basically like drafting him in the first round without actually having to use the pick, and how often do you see teams draft Two QB's in one year??? Getting Brees would be the Hugest Blessing because it would automatically take our Biggest need and turn it into our smallest need and we would have absolutely NO reason to draft a QB.

yea if we sign a ''starter'' like brees then we should invest a later rounf pick like a 5th on someone like a shockley if we dont get a brees then we should try to get a good qb earl in the draft. Shockley would be perfect because he needs around 3 to 4 years to develop and thats how long brees can be effective for

You can never have enough good quarterbacks around. Find a good one and some team down the line may pay you a substantially higher price for him than what you spent.

They may have more pressing needs, but if a QB is still available that's higher up on their draft board than what's staring them in the face they should take the QB.
