Why couldn't we afford to make a run at Suh if the Lions let him hit free agency?

1 player signed in free agency or several players signed in free agency. Granted Suh alone would probably solve our rush defense but we got holes in a lot of places and not all of them can be filled in the draft.

Just remember, for what you'll need for Suh ($15 million) . . . is double what you paid those 2 players this season. I'd pass on Suh all day at his asking price.

Now Starks has a very cuttable number next year . . . 5 million saved against the cap and only 1 million in dead space . . I'd be shocked if he was on the team next year at that price. Cam Wake also has a very cuttable number, Dolphins are gonna have to check his health because he just looked out of shape for a good part of the season and his ability against the run has become at time embarrassing.

I think with Jordan, Fede and Shelby . . . to team up with Vernon (another guy you'll have to pay soon, maybe this offseason) and whatever draft picks/UDFA's dedicated to DE . . . Cam Wake may not be on this team next year.

Odrick is the best guy to keep out of the 3. I'd definitely try to resign him.

Earl Mitchell has a "very cuttable" contract, all savings, but here is the dilemma, if I am proposing keeping Odrick and you get a guy like Suh, I think some people rather have more of a Paul Soliai type in there and neither one of those guys is that.

I think next year we'll see:

Vernon/Odrick/Mitchell/Jordan (if the kid is dedicated and has an offseason to get healthy and used to the added weight) as our starting dline.

So, would you rather re-sign Odrick? he wont come cheap. I'm not for drafting a DT early. I think we need to go BPA, and I think it will be DeVante Parker or Kevin White.

A guy like suh can wreak a lot of havoc and cover up for other deficiencies but I'm torn due to price we would have to pay. I think I would prefer a stud mlb if one is available.

Denzel Perryman in the second.

Wake is really our most tradable commodity. I sure hope the Dolphins would explore trading him before they just cut him.

You have to look at trading Wake given the trajectory of our D.
Most you would probably get is a 3

I would agree with that, however would a team pay Wake his 10 million a year next season while also giving up a pick in the process?

Cowboys were in a very similar situation with Ware last year and cut him.

Nah, I doubt any team is giving you anything close to a 3. I think a 5 is high end for him at this point. He'll be 33 next year and truthfully is starting to look like a part time player (as a pass rush specialist).

I think there is a very real chance they cut him outright.

And just looking at some cap projections, we are probably gutting it out with Ellerbe and Wheeler for another season, and even Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace. Jeff Ireland signed these deals last year like he was getting a 3 year grace period or something.

i think to classify as a "tradeable commodity" there has to be value there, and i don't think the value for wake justifies trading him.

I'd say our most tradeable commodity is dion jordan...but thats only if you're ok cutting losses and getting less than your investment.

Ellerbe and Hartline are gone IMO. Unfortunately, we're stuck with Wheeler.

Suh has helped Detroit become a serious playoff contender. He will be expensive but do you really think that the Lions will not pay up?
OK to consider but near 0% chance of occurring. Lions will not let him go - they will find the cash and cut elsewhere if needed.
