Hey guys, I just took a look back at the 2013 draft. If we didn't trade up for Dion Jordan and kept our 12th overall pick and our 10th pick in teh 2nd round, here are some of the players that were available at those picks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
12th overall pick:
  • DJ Hayden
  • Sheldon Richardson
  • Star Lotulelei
  • Kenny Vacaro

--------------------------------------------------------------------
10th pick in 2nd round:
  • LeVeon Bell (only name that stood out for me, although Jonthan Banks and Kevin Minter are starters for their NFL teams)

I know hindsight is 20/20 and all, but damn, those are some nice players that got picked right around where our original picks were. Kind of depressing to look back at it now, especially with the way Dion Jordan has been contributing (or not contributing, to be more accurate).

If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

... Just saying.

Hayden isn't doing much due to injuries but he'd have been an option for sure based on his workouts.

While the DTs are good players we didn't really need a DT, nor do we need one now.

Looking back then and now, I'd probably have taken either Vaccaro or Tyler Eifert based on what we needed.

Had we kept the 2nd rounder... who knows. I really liked Gavin Escobar and Tarmon Armstead. I was fine getting Jamar Taylor who at the time was a steal (and in fairness to him we don't know if he's a bad player or not)

Stupid unnecessary trade by that turd Ireland…just saying.

With my uncle and my wife as witnesses, I was cursing the second the trade was announced and Dion Jordan's name was called.

Every team can look back retrospectively and pick out players they could have/ should have drafted. Useless endeavor

Trade back for Ertz

Use second for Albert

Profit...

Terron Armstead would have been a great pick and a scheme fit...which makes it impossible that Ireland would have picked him.

I know, but it is still interesting to look back and see how things could have been different. And it just shows how inept Ireland was. It's a miracle he lasted as long as he did. I guess that shows how inept our owner is.

The Raiders would have taken Hayden at three if they hadn't traded down. They came out after the draft and said so. That's why they were willing to accept so little compared to the chart.

Anyway, it doesn't take much to find a player who would have been a better pick at three than Jordan. At this point it looks like pretty anyone from at least the first two rounds will qualify.

The disturbing thing about the pick is that apparently the whole scouting department was on board. It wasn't just Ireland. He was the consensus pick of everyone, if you believe Ross. The guy they all wanted. Just goes to show how rotten things were in the state of Denmark. And a lot of those guys are still around, too.

Actually, I think it would have been a good year to draft a defensive tackle because Paul Soliai and Randy Starks were entering the final years of their contracts (if I remember correctly). And actually, I'm with you on Gavin Escobar. He seems like a pretty good player. But damn, LeVeon Bell was right there too. I know, it's an exercise in futility to look back at these things, but I just can't help but think "what if."

Yea, I didn't like the trade up at the time, but I wasn't too vocal about it when it happened. A lot of my friends and family that are Dolfans were pretty excited about it, and I didn't want to rain on their parade. But I didn't like that he wasn't a fit for our defense, or that it didn't really address a team need. Heck, I didn't even know about his injury at the time. That really soured me on the pick.

The trade itself was a positive one. We gained value. Unfortunately that doesn't matter when you take the wrong guy. The trade up for Daniel Thomas was a similar story. People forget we gained value there, too, relative to the chart. But it just goes to show that "value" is just a means to an end, which is picking the right players.

Well we did sign Mitchell to good money and we had two DT's in their last year of contract so it was definitely a much greater need than Jordan
