I don't mean to make such a generalizing blanket statement like that, especially not after a 1-15 season, but look at our schedule.
If we can't at least pull a Browns from last year and bang out a 10-6 record against the worst of the NFL's teams, then it will look really bad.

I mean seriously

Seattle
Oakland
New England
at St Louis
Buffalo in Toronto
San Fransisco
at Kansas City
at Jets

I mean cmon, half of those teams are just God Awful, and the other half are division rivals and the Rams who aren't terrible. The Fins really need to make the playoffs this year because they might not see a schedule this favorable ever again, certainly not next year against the NFC and AFC south.

They'll see this favorable schedule again if they go 1-15

I think we are not as good as some people believe and definately not as bad. None of these games are gimmes and it would not shock me to see Seattle beat us this weekend.

i agree to a certain extent. i dont think we stink if we dont make the playoffs, but i will say that if we dont make the playoffs and we still finish 8-8 or 9-7 i will be extremly dissappointed now as opposed to when in the beggining of the season if someone said we would go 8-8 or 9-7 i would think thats a drastic improvement and successfull season no matter what.

Not making the playoffs will mean that our second half of the season will have been distinctly WORSE than the first half of our season, and that's what I'll be upset about. Regression.

My point is that if we can't have a winning record in the 2nd half against THAT schedule then it does not reflect very well on us.

very possible that we have a winning second half AND miss the playoffs. 9-7 will guarantee us nothing...and there's a slight chance that a 10-6 team could miss the playoffs like Cleveland did last year.

I can relate to your point of view, but I hate to completely disagree.

It's not like were exactly world beaters or coming off a SuperBowl win. Just take a step back and you can only name less than a handful of superstars on our team....

Joey Porter, Ricky Williams......who else is a proven probowler???? On paper, we look just as bad as those teams you mentioned.

the last time i checked they are all professional teams
Every single week there are upsets because they all get paid to play the game.

We should not have beaten the ravens last year
but we did
the ny giants should not have beaten the patriots last year
but they did
the ny jets (ugh) should not have beaten baltimore colts in the third superbowl
but they did.

if we have a winning record this year (9 games) we were successful- period.

Any thing over that is much more than anyone here expected (for the most part)
:woot:

They'll see this favorable schedule again if they go 1-15

That has bearing on only 2 games. 14 of next years opponents are predetermined. As are 14 of the games for the season after that and the one after that and so on.

The only 2 games decided by where you finish are the 2 games within your conference that arent against divisional opponents, or from the division that you play all 4 teams of. You play the 2 teams that finished in the same position in your division of the "off" two divisions in the conference.

This year we drew the 2 last place teams from the AFC South and North because we play the entire AFC West. In fact record dosent matter, its where you finish in your division. We couldve went 3-13 instead of 1-15 and got the same schedule.

And one could argue that despite finishing in 2nd place last year, the bills got the easiest deal of all the teams in our division by drawing the Bungles and Jags. We got the Texans and Ravens. So, your record really isnt much of a factor at all when it comes to your schedule for the next season.

Consistency is still missing from this team. When they've played well, they can beat anybody. Other times they've played in a listless fog and it's doubtful they could beat anybody. Admittedly, consistency is difficult for a young team with a new coach and new architect like BP, but it's what's missing.

It will be interesting to see how this young team responds to the pressure of knowing the playoffs are a distinct possibility one year after almost going winless.
