LOL, Taylor as a LE, he is 2 small to be on the line in a 3-4 (tho he could pull it off). Holiday would be the LE and Roth the RE, with Traylor in the middle. Yes JT would be WLB, but he still would be in on the pass rush the majority of the time. He has played LB in college and with Porter on the other side, he wont be the only focus for teams now.

Jason Taylor is the 3-4 OLB. He sometimes will set his hand down out of the 3-4 and play end but most of the time when you see him as an end it has been out of the 4-3.

We don't play a pure 3-4 we sometimes switch to the 4-3 to give the offense another look. The front seven will look like this.

LE: Holliday
DT: Traylor (If he comes back)
RE: Roth

OLB: Porter
ILB: Crowder
ILB: Thomas
OLB: Taylor

I love when people try and say Crowder is a 3-4 OLB....he has a horrible skill set to be playing outside in a 3-4.

Exactly. Our LB play last year was horrible in my opinion last year. Well not horrible, but not where it could have been, mainly because Crowder was out of place and Spragan is a solid backup, but not a starter. With Porter here, and hopefully Traylor back for one more go and Crowder teaming with Zack in the middle. . . this front 7 will be incredible.

:yeahthat:

With Rod Wright subbing in at DE and Manny and Evans at NT.

and JT was a RB in High School!!:sidelol: He is not a LB!!

you think those guys are big and physical enough to play nose tackle..

Manny Wright is for sure, I don't want to count on him for anything though since he hasn't done anything yet.

Evans might be if he beefed up some but to me last season he seemed like a 3-4 LE or a 4-3 DT.

EDIT: Oh he said Rod Wright  he will be a DE in the 3-4 maybe a DT in the 4-3

Um.... yeah, he is. He plays OLB for us and blitzes most of the time though occasionally he dropped into coverage or covered a tight end.
Where he lines up determines what defense we're running. If he stands, he's OLB in 3-4. If he gets down he's the DE in the 4-3. He is both linebacker and defensive end but we run more of a 3-4 now so he's mostly linebacker.

Maybe not a 4-3 LB . . . but in a 3-4 scheme is MUCH better suited as a LB than a DE. But it doesn't matter . . he is versatile enought to do this, and has the support on the opposite side to help him. LOL who are teams going to double cover . . . JT? go ahead . . Porter will make them pay, something Spragan and Crowder couldn't do when we had 3-4 sets in the past.

Exactly.Jason Taylor is a DE not a LB.We need a real outside LB opposite Porter(napoleon harris is out there not sure if he can play outside tho but would be kinda cheap).Taylor is the best at DE not as an outside LB.He is not as quick as a speedy 6-2/6-3 LB so he wouldnt be effective there.

Do you know what makes an effective 3-4 defense? I don't think you do based on your post.

The defensive lineman have to be larger than in the 4-3 because they need to eat up lineman to create lanes for the linebackers. Pass rushing isn't even their first job. It is to occupy lineman and plug up running lanes. Does that sound like JT?

Your OLB's need to be speedy but also have good pash rushing moves. (JT is as fast as most linebackers in the league so I don't know what you're talking about there)

Your ILB's need to be decent pass rushers, but more than that they need to be solid tacklers who can read a play and flow to either side of the field whether it be a running play or just reading the QB's eyes.

Corners aren't important, it's nice to have guys who can break on the ball. The created pressure makes decent corners a whole lot better and so you don't need a shut down guy.

Safety is more important than corner in a 3-4 because you need a guy who can cover spaces and not only read the QB's eyes but also break on the ball.

Taylor is a perfect 3-4 OLB and a horrible 3-4 DE

Taylor was defensive POY last year playing 4-3 DE & 3-4 OLB. Why would they pull him off the field in the 3-4 this year? He's not big enough to play 3-4 DE. The team's entire defensive strategy revolved around moving JT to keep the other team's O off balance.
