I don't understand how you can watch that game and come away thinking that Eli isn't an outstanding QB. Looking at the box score is one thing, but actually watching the game, and thinking that he didn't play a great game, that just blows my mind.
That 49ers defense was phenomenal last night, and they were pounding Eli as bad as I've seen a quarterback get hit in years. I could not believe that the guy kept getting up after getting hammered in the back, hammered in the chest, and bent like a freaking pretzel by three guys at once. And on top of that, the coverage downfield was outstanding. How he got through that game without fumbling, I have no earthly idea.
getting up time and time again does not mean he had a great game. that is more gutsy.
their are qbs in the nfl, including a guy like mark sanchez who gets hit time and time again but still gets right back up( and no im not even saying sanchez is close to manning, i knew this part would prob be taken out of context so i had to clarify, lol) my point is, if thats your reason as to why he was amazing yesterday, thats not a good reason.
what he did yesterday was very gutsy, resiliant, not great. if any other qb continued to lead drives that resulted in punts, that qb would get hammered. i get that he played a phenominal defense, but elite qbs ( drew brees last week vs san fran) make big plays vs big ds.
and just for the record, i watched the entire game like you, i dont just look at the box score, because if i did, the box score would indicate 2 tds and 316 yds which looks like a good game, but what the box score does not show is that the 2nd td was followed by a punt from their own 10 yd line that was somehow, i still cant fathom it, kyle williams lets it touch him and the giants get the ball on the san fran 25 after punting for like the 5th time in the 2nd half to that point.
u want to say he is a good qb, go ahead, but if u want to say he played great yesterday, i cant buy that, because despite getting back up again and again, despite making big throws at times, many of those drives ended with steve weatherford kicking the ball away.
