If we were to draft Tannehill at #8 overall

If we draft Ryan Tannehill should he start or sit?

Why do we keep wasting our 2nd round draft picks on QB's who are going to be boo'd out of Miami or cut 2 years later for not getting it done... I think that's a much better question.

And Weeden is 28/29 years old... hardly the "future" QB we need...

Sherman didn't even start him in college until the guy ahead of him got injured and flamed out. Now we're discussing whether he's starting day 1 in the pros? That seems unlikely. I am all for taking him at 8, but we have to face the reality he needs to be developed. Particularly considering the lack of talent around him on offense.

I don't see Ireland drafting a guy at 8 thats not going to start for 2 years when his job is on the line

I don't see them as having much of a choice but to draft him at 8. The fan base and owner have stated they need a QB. I think Ireland will look to trade down into the mid round 1 and take him there but if he can't its Tannehill at 8. I looked at game film from Tannehill and from what I saw he does go through his progressions. I didn't notice him starring down receivers as much as others have on this board. When he recognizes a defensive coverage the ball is out very quickly. He has an outstanding release which a lot of people fail to recognize. I'm very curious to see what his 40 time is on his pro day. He looks VERY fast on the field, out running DB's for long gains. A broken foot caused him to not run at the combine. My concerns with him are his deep ball accuracy. At times his deep ball is under thrown which in the NFL will lead to picks. He needs to improve on that before he even touches the field. I'm also concerned with how long he has played the position. He is very raw and will need time to develop. At least a year. I think if he comes to Miami it would be the best case scenario for him. He will be coming to a team who's system he is familiar with. Do I think he will be a good QB? If an organization has the time to let him develop, yes. I'm not sure the dolphins have that kind of time, though. I would not be too upset with him at 8, I'd love to trade down and still get him if our coaches like him that much but ideally he should go top to mid round 2.

I am a BIG proponent of sitting players for a few season and allowing them to develop. Look at Rogers. it's the way it used to be for a majority of players.

The likes of Marino aren't that common. Way too much undue pressure.

The game I like to watch to see what he could be was the game versus LSU in 2010. He put some points up on a very good team. He made some great throws. Yes he threw some picks, one was a bad read by the receiver, one a great play and one he forced. But that game shows what he can do against great competition. He really didn't have too much talent around him other than Fuller. Check that game out if you want to see what he might be able to turn into. Oh and I think you sit him at a minimum of 8 games if we are really starting to blow then let him come in and play some games, see what we got in him, see what he has learned throughout the game.
