I remember seeing this a few years ago around here, (well could've been longer, esp since, i've been here for 15 years)...

Lets design the makeup of our Team. You assign a rating to each unit, for simplicity i'm going to be very broad with the units, you're more than welcome to come up with a more complex rating system, but it's too early for me to do that.

You get to assign an Excellent to one unit, and you get two each for Good, Above average, Average, and Poor, you may assign these however you like, myself I choose to use only one per unit. we can assume that your special teams are average.

QB - Excellent
RB - Poor
WR - Above Average
TE - Average
Oline - Good

Dline - Good
LB - Above average
CB - poor
S - Average

(we will assume special teams are average)

First, these evaluations are based on no evidence and assuming no injuries. Yeah, I violated your limits QB - Average RB - Poor - mostly due to lack of a 2nd BIG back WR - Excellent TE - Average Oline - Good - could be above average, depending on RG Dline - Good LB - Average CB - poor S - Above Average, I have some confidence in IAQ

Qb - Average
RB - average
WR - Excellent
TE - Average
OL - Good
DE - Good
LB - AVERAGE
CB - POOR (WITH POTENTIAL THOUGH)
S - ABOVE AVERAGE ( BUT IF IAQ IS GOOD, GOOD)

Qb-GOOD
Rb-average
Wr- excellent
Te-above average
O-line- average
D-line- above average
LB- average
Dbs- average
K- average
P- good

Qb-GOOD
Rb-Unknown
Wr- Good
Te-Good
O-line- Average
D-line- Good
LB- Average
Dbs- Unknown
K- Average
P- Good

Sort of a ranking on which unit you have the most confidence in...

QB - Good
RB - Poor
WR - Excellent
TE - Average
Oline - Above average

Dline - Good
LB - Above average
CB - poor
S - Average

I think that is how is shake out...Although I would rate the QB to very good, but as that is not an option..good works. The WR unit I grade excellent based on potential...so much depth and with a 100 percent Parker...could be something really special.

ouch. I could've been more clear. If YOU were building a team, how would you want your units to rate?

Well, now I feel dumb...I reread your post and you do state just that....

That's an unanswerable question. Not that it can't be done, but it can't be done with an attachment to reality. Real world is, even for those HCs/GMs who build a team, they can't get what they want. Drafted rookies probably won't perform as desired. FAs are a crap shoot. A lot of factors involved (e.g., an ecellent front 4 can make an average secondary look very good). Were I building a team, priority one would be no unit with a 'poor' rating. Second, an above average OL/DL. Most of the rest depends quite a bit on luck - getting 4-5 All-Pro players.

I'm also going to make a minor tweak to mine. I'm going to rate on a confidence from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most confident.

QB: 6
RB: 4
WR: 7
TE: 5
OL: 5
DL: 7
LB: 5
CB: 3
S: 7

QB - above average
Rb - below average
WR - Good
TE -below average
O-line- average
D-line- above average
LB - below average
DB - below average average
K - average
P - average

QB- Excellent
RB- Poor
WR- Average
TE- Average
Oline- Above Average

DLine- Good
LB- Poor
CB- Good
S- Above Average

On the basis that elite QBs are few and far between

DL - Excellent
WR - Good
OL - Good
QB - Above average
LB - Above average
Everything else is a wash.

Would go the same as yours WildBill except I would swap RB and TE on O, and on D I would swap CB and LB. Reason on O is 3rd and 1 or at the goal line you want to be able to punch it in, while on D I think CBs have more impact on a game than LBs. Good question although a good few haven't understood it!

QB - Excellent
RB - Average
WR - Above Average
TE - Poor
Oline - Good

Dline - Good
LB - Poor
CB - Above average
S - Average
