Guys lets be honest with ourselves for a second. This loss was dissapointing i know but im proud of our guys for what they accomplished. We now know that our beloved fins are contenders again. Now with that said what would you do in this off season if you are Ireland?

If I am the GM I am satisfied with our DB play, Hill can get the axe and be replaced via draft. Our LBs are decent but could use an upgrade. I really think Porter might be on his way out. Hes too one dimensional, ONLY a pass rusher. Crowder is good to above average, hes got the talent but hes too 'streaky'. Hot one series cold the next. We need consistency out of these guys. And we also need someone on that DL that can WREAK HAVOC and get into the backfield. Langford and Merling are bright spots already, I would look to replace the NT position. Ferg is getting old and we need a beast on that line to disrupt things for the opposing offense.

On the offensive side i really like what i see out of Ginn, Bess, and Cam. Ginn is a playmaker we all can see that. That fumble today was due to great defense with Rey putting the pressure on Chad. Ginn had alot of clutch grabs today to move the chains, I see promise in this kid, hes come along way. Bess is a beast already, could push for a starting job. Ronnie and Ricky are a force. I like Ronnies fire and Rickys calm and composed nature. They are a great tandem and a force to be reckoned with. With that being said I see our OL as the problem. Jake is good, Smiley is good, Satele needs to go, Thomas too early to tell but looks promising, and Carey is decent but plenty of times today the pressure came from his side of the OL. It seemed everytime Pennington was on his back it either came right up the middle (Satele) or it came off the edge (Carey). I would upgrade those 2 positions on the offensive side. Chad is smart desicive and accurate although you couldnt tell by today. Most of the turnovers were due to a breakdown on the OL. He shoulda never threw a couple of those passes but hey throughout the whole season he has made play after play after play. Get him some help on the line and he will pick apart anyone.

So if im Ireland I upgrade these positions in this order:
C/G
DT
FS
LB

What would you guys do if you were the GM of the fins in 09?

agree with above. But I would TOTALLY LOAD UP ON DEFENSE AND THE D LINE FOR SURE!!! AS WE SAW TODAY DEFENSE WINS GAMES AND CHAMPIONSHIP'S!

I actually agree with everything you said. Our interior line is definately suffering but that's what happens when you lose your starting two guards. If I can remember correctly, one of our starting guards today if not both weren't even with the team come beginning of this years training camp.

Now with the draft, I'm hoping their is a first round prospect at NT. We need a good young stud there to hog the blockers. I'm spending at least one if not both of our second rounders on some offensive Guards. I mean true, we have Justin Smiley & Donald Thomas coming back from injury, but you can't always depend on people coming back from injuries. Plus you could never have to many Offensive Linemen. I consider that a good problem.

With the third & the rest of the picks, I'm picking the Best Players Available. Hoping to cash in on a gr8 ILB in the fifth round (via Zach Thomas anyone???).

With free agency:

I'm not sure we should resign Vernon Carey b/c he was just sooo inconsistant this season. He really regressed. Crowder is a slightly above average LB. He never turned out being as good as we all hoped he would at LB.
I'm sure despite our great progress this season, their will be a lot of change come next season. Since Big Tuna is comming back :woot: he doesn't settle for just first round & out. I'm looking so foward to the offseason. I wish we were still in it, but I'm looking foward to all of these messageboards & seeing all the moves our team does...

Go DOLPHINS!!! :woot: Superbowl '10 BABY!!!:woot:

just my oppinion... i would RESIGN CAREY!! let samson play out center with al johnson
hope donald thomas comes back strong and that smiley would never break his freakin leg again!..
picks would be Safety.. only because ed reed is my hero now =)
WR
MLB
DL
in that order..

For one thing, I wouldn't be content just having Pennington, Henne and Beck battling it out at QB in camp. We need to bring a couple more young guys in who can provide serious competition. Let the best three shake themselves out.

Penny has earned this job. One game can not diminsh what he accomplished this season. If it weren't for him we would have even won 6 games. After 1 loss your already looking to get rid of him.

imo we need to focus on the interior of the offensive line first and foremost, then linebacker and DB. sure we need a WR and Nose as well, but i don't see those as bigger needs than the first 3 i mentioned.

Not looking to get rid of him. If Pennington is the best QB in camp next year then he starts. He needs to earn the right to be the starter, as ANY QB does.

Why waste picks on quarterbacks when the FO is pretty sold on Henne. I believe Henning said it best, " We feel like we have a guy just as good as that guy up in Atlanta." After the way this season has panned out I'd believe anything this FO says.

Let Penny, Henne and Beck battle it out. I think it's Pennington's team until he proves he's lost a step.

O-Linemen, Linebackers, a safety, a WR, and a NT.
I'd like to replace Vernon Carey at RT (he might leave anyway in free agency). He got whipped all season.
Also a C/OG as I dont think Satele will ever be a good run-blocker, and no guarantees that both Donald Thomas and Smiley come back 100% healthy.

So my order would be:
1. RT
2. OLB
3. Center/Guard
4/5/6/7, depending on the best available in draft: ILB / NT / WR / S

you dont think that cleo lemon could of won when 10 games if the wildcat worked in them? i think henne deserves a shot..

My guess is our regime is going to go with trying to find a dominant pressure DE/OLB hybrid or NT. I think the priority is going to continue to be the front seven on D. It allows a ball control offense and it can sure help your secondary look a lot better.

The first thing I would do is improve our oline in free agency with 2 players I really like:
1- C Matt Birk from the Vikes
2- OT Jordan Gross from the panthers

Evaluate who we would want to keep on the O and D-line, then look in the draft for mean ugly big guys..

Look for Safeties that will play the ball instead of letting it play them

Get rid of this stupid 3-4 defense.. Go back to the 4-3, use both Porter and Roth as situational LB's, cut or trade Crowder and look to beef up the D-line..

Grab a Corner if available..
