Cut- Mckinnie, Mare, Bennie Anderson= $8m savings

Restructure-Chambers, Harrington, Carter= maybe $4-5m

Resign-Wes, Lemon, holliday, Mcintosh, Bowens, Bell, Jones

FA Sign-Steinbach, Davis, Adalius Thomas

Steinbach and Davis would solidify our line, and O-line is still a high if not highest priority. Thomas would be a very nice addition, would fit in nicely with our style of Defense.

Draft-depends on where we are of course, but i really feel stronly about best player available attitude. No particular order by position here.

WR-I really think that Samardzija is going to surprise a lot of people, i think he may be the best WR, and i know thats going to get a lot of feedback from people. But i really think he is right up there at the top. He makes everything he does look effortless and easy, he never gets rattled. Could see this pick in the 1st.

LB-Buster Davis could be another Zach Thomas or Sam Mills IMO. But dont like him for us in the 1st. Dont really see us taking LB in the 1st, maybe 2nd or 3rd.

QB-I like Quinn naturally, ****it, why couldnt we have had him coming out when we had a really bad year. I also like Russell, and think we will have strong shot at him, big, strong, and lively arm. I could see us taking him in the 1st. IMO there are only 3 1st round QB's, Quinn, Russell and Smith. And im not completely sold on Smith. Stanton and Brahm are not 1st round picks IMO.

RB-Lynch I like a lot, and Bush is a load, a lot of good backs, but we wont and shouldnt draft a RB high at all. I could possibly see one in the 3rd.

CB-unsure about this position. But we do need some help here.

OL-we should address it late in the draft IMO, that is "IF" we could get Steinbach and Davis.

Overall I like either WR or QB in the 1st, although I still favor the best player available.

Well if we are putting together a perfect world, this is what I would like to see.

Restructure- Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Kevin Carter, Joey Harrington
(3 have already said they have no problem restrucuring)

Release- Seth McKinney, Jeno James, Bennie Anderson, Olindo Mare
(Most would save us their FULL salary)

Resign- Wes Welker, Cleo Lemon, Damien McIntosh, Yerimia Bell, Kevin Vickerson, Donnie Jones, Darrien Barnes
(No Big Contracts If they want to much let them walk)

Sign- Nate Clements, Leonard Davis
(Big Money for Clements, Asante Sameul is the backup plan. Davis only if we get him as a high priced GUARD not a LT)

Draft- Figuring we have pick 8-10 I would trade down to about 16(value Chart) for a first and a second round pick.

1(16). Levi Brown- New LT of the future, Strong and Mean
2a(10).Steve Smith-He could help our WR's immediatly
2b(16).Earl Everett- Teams with ZT and CC for a great lb group
3(10).Brandon Mebane-A DT for depth and possible stareter
4(10).Dan Santucci- We need some depth at OG
6(10).Tyler Palko-Has been sub par with DW coaching him but was promising before that we know how that goes
7(10). KICKER don't really know to much about this class of kickers yet but
get one with a late pick to replace Mare

restructure-taylor, thomas, carter

1. Antoine Cason, Arizona
2. Arron Sears, Tenn
3. Best Defensive PA
4. backup running back
5. joey
6. Isaiah Stanback-QB, Wash
7. Nick Folk-K, Arizona

then depending on what happens with the guys we bring in through FA and Draft, i say cut Harrington in favor of Stanback, and Shelton or James whoever doesnt make the final cut for starting OL.= 6.6-7.4m in additional savings.

We need some cap space first - 17.4M is deceiving because we have alot of FA's. Given that - Zach, Taylor, and Chambers have to restructure with Chambers the one you have to look at a pay cut. Not sure what the cap hit for him is but 7M is WAY TOO MUCH for him. KCarter is a pay cut. He has been great but he is slow and gives minimal pass rush. At 6.5 that is too much for him. He has mentioned he would restructure but he needs a pay cut. I'd rather resign Holliday for DE - his actual position. The rest of the list shold be cut except for Shelton. He looks like he could be a find at RG.

In FA I'd open up the bank at DB for Samuel or Clements for two reasons. One we need a #1 DB badly and two it takes a #1 DB away from our competition. Other than DB I wouldn't touch the FA list you have because they will be too expensive. There will be alot of $$ floating around - we need to use our cap $$ on impact guys. A #1 DB will make an immediate impact to the secondary which definitely needs it.

welker is my favorite dolphin right now, and i would flip if we let him go. we need to resign him and bell imo. If we could get either micheal lewis or lance briggs from free agency, i would be extremely happy. Imagine our lb core. thomas, crowder, briggs. In the draft, i believe we need some help in our secondary, our O-line, and our play calling. I think we have the tools to win outside of that. I would also like to get a young qb to back up cpep.

LB-Buster Davis could be another Zach Thomas or Sam Mills IMO. But dont like him for us in the 1st. Dont really see us taking LB in the 1st, maybe 2nd or 3rd.

Off topic, but I went to school and was good friends with Buster and he is a really good guy as well as a hard worker. He stayed away from drugs and Im very proud to see where he has taken himself.

I would be very excited to see him wear a dolphins uniform.

If I were the head coach, I'd take the Alabama offer. I can take that abuse for $57 million.

This is why I'm not a head coach.

Picks As Of 12/30/06

Based on our current pic ten, trade 10th for GB 14th & 2nd & 5th & then 14th for NY Giants 16th, 3rd Round, 7th Rd. I am not a 100% sure of the value chart for traded pics ( I couldnt find it). I believe both teams need help and would reach for players especially QB/RB (GB) & RB/WR/CB (NYG)

1st Levi Brown OT (Penn St.)
2a Earl Everrett OLB (UF) dark horse Timmons OLB (FSU)
2b (tr.GB) CB Aaron Ross (Texas)
3a Drew Stanton GB
3b (tr.NYG) Ray McDonald DT/DE
4th WR or Marcus Thomas DT (Suspension causes him to fall--but he is a steal)
5th (tr.GB) HB/FB Leonard (Rutgers)
6th OG
7a RB/WR
7b (tr. NYG) BPA (OG/LB)

Restucture Taylor, Thomas, Harrington, Mare.

If Mare won't restructure let him go and draft a kicker.

Trade Chambers and RW.

Retain McKinney IF we don't acquire another center.

The draft will come in April. A lot of info will come out between now and then. Let that play out for now.

Cut- Mckinnie, Mare, Bennie Anderson= $8m savings
...

You need to take into account the cap acceleration for the bonuses, unfortunately.

Mare would actually only save $700K I think. McKinnie is $3.5M.

I'm not sure if the $2.1M for Bennie is a typo. http://www.finheaven.com/2007/ has it at $1.5M.

So you're looking at around $5.7M. Still not bad.

What is the status of Welker, Lemon, Bell, Vickerson, and Jones? Vickerson and Jones are only in their 2nd year - how can they be FA's? I don't see how we can lose any of these guys. Does someone have more detail as to what type of FA's they are if at all. Vickerson was drafted in the 7th rd if I remember and it's his 2nd yr - makes no sense.

Just Bennie. [EDIT: Not even Bennie saves his full salary. His base is $1.5M with a roster bonus of $300K and a prorated signing bonus of $300K - so we're on the hook for $300K regardless of whether he's still on the team.]

Seth has $457,500 of unamortized signing bonus left in 2007. Jeno has $708,333K left in 2007, 2008, and 2009 (for about $2.1M). Mare has $921K in 2007, and $400K in 2008 and 2009 (for about $1.7M).

Vickerson signed a two year deal. We picked Jones up off of waivers from Seattle (I assume he signed a 3 year deal with them in 2004).
