I know these are ifs, but i would like your opinion.

If our injured players return next year to full strength, IMO this (2005) is the only re-building year we have. I know we have issues at QB, Lt, and a few others, but IF we are 25 mil under the cap, we can definately address those issues. We will be contenders much sooner than expected

our defense is aging so if we make a quick run it has to be in 2-3 years. after that our defense has to be rebuilt.

I think if we win 2 of the next 3 games we will be contenders to make the playoffs but if we adress the LT, QB and DB situations then I think we can become Super Bowl contenders. I'm not ready to say lets just draft a LT though I think if the O-line can prove its worth over the season we keep it the same.

We have already begun to rebuild the defense, and in this day and age of parity and salary cap, we have the potential to be good and consistent for a long time.

Our defense will get younger with vickerson and wright in the middle. we also have youth in poole and daniels. then there is crowder at lb. He is getting great experience now and IMO he will be great next year. The o-line has some young players as well, so if they can truly improve, we should be able to address the age issue as well.

Well, hasn't Saban done a pretty decent job (so far) in rebuilding the D in one season ?? There are 3 different starting DL from last year (Carter, Holliday and Trailor), 1 different starter at LB (Crowder) and one new player who gets a lot of playing time (Spraghan). 3 different guys in the secondary (Jones, Schulters, Daniels). Now, are we any younger, not really but he did "rebuild" this D in a very short time...With a little more money to work with next year, it could be really exciting.

I fully believe that saban has the smarts to know that his defense is aging and is going to need to be refueled... I think he'll take care of that in the draft and find some quality players in free agency... I think with how smart saban is about personel, i think we could be looking at this team to not skip a beat.... by the time JT, Zach & Madison are on their way out I think we will have young guys coming up who are ready to take on their rolls having lerned from the best.... In short i guess I'm saying we won't need a rebuilding period.... we will just refuel these next couple of year.... I mean look at Daniels, Roth ,Crowder, Poole, Vickerson, Wright, Carey, Hadnot, Brown, Welker...there all young guys....

T. Daniels, C. Crowder, M. Roth, K. Vickerson, W. Poole......our defense is already being rebuilt. If we add 2 or 3 starters from the draft each year then in 2-3 years our Defense will be completely new.

I believe there are to things to our success next year... Keeping Linehan.. and Improving the secondary...

Thirdly.. though not less important.... drafting a QB.

Except for JT, we already have young and up and comings to take their place. On D we still have D. Bowens, 28, K. Vickerson, M. Wright, M. Roth,
W. Poole, Daniels, Y. Bell, Pope, Spragen, M. Jackson, Crowder and S. Mitchell, these all are good young players who can fill in this and next year. And this is just the D. The only player that's old on the O is the QB, everybody else is under 30.

Sounds good, hell sounds REAL good, but........... adding 2-3 starters on defense per year would be a very very difericult task, and chances are we won't get anybody as good as J.T. and maybe not even Zach(although it's possible Crowder could be as good as Zach). I'm not saying we couldn't do it, but to get a group to equal the overall talent of Zach, J.T. Madison, Surtain would be very very hard to do. This is my only concern, we've been a little spoiled recently with OUTSTANDING defensive players, and we may not be able to formidably replace these guys, not all of them at least. This is also why I say Build quickly and WIN NOW!!!!

yea... isnt our defense the oldest in the league? i think i heard that somewhere, but we have 3 potential long term studs in daniels, crowder, and roth. and im not going to worry about saban finding DEFENSIVE talent... i think he knows a thing or two about that side of the ball...
