... hung and then shot down.

What if one of the keys to a winning season / future was the approach to the phenomenon called momentum ?
How much more focused would we be as a team if Miami coaches were to include the study of momentum in with the rest of their preparation :

* To identify momentum
* Road crowds and the deflation of road team advantage / looking to create plays in order to initiate this advantage

etc etc.

because i believe the game is so interconnected with faith and what you encounter with your senses influences your faith. (see how we are when a player's numbers suck in a game) either way or with the majority of sports fans.

momentum, finding momentum changing opportunites to make plays.

or do you think they already focus on 80 percent of the game that is mental?

in this light we would be more of a team. Even as fans as we , during the games, wait for those plays to happen for us as if we know theyre there in the fold of each game.

i think saban has the players focusing on themselves, instead of their surroundings. he has always stressed for players to do their best at their job and everything else will take care of itself. so as far as outside influence i dont think saban is to concerned with it.

p.s. your sig = :p4e:

I think this is a great post. Your best ever.

Momentum is critical to success. We see it all the time, every game. One play takes the crowd out of it, one play brings the hearts of the team back into the game, one play stalls the other team dead in their tracks....

The problem is, that one play, is going to happen for both teams throughout a game. So essentially, you'd always be playing for the momentum....which is what happens now anyway.

Maybe we could hire Dr. Phil to replace Saban. Players would be more in touch with their feelings. Manny Wright would only be crying why Dr. Phil challenged him to "grow as an individual," as opposed to having his feelings hurt.

Maybe Dr. Joyce Brothers could be an Assistant Coach.

well, yeah but by focusing on your own play you would

a) include or even enhance the act of "looking to make a play"

but would also:
b) trust that the play or the deciding tide changer is there somewhere, instead of "hoping".

finding that PLAY would be there in one's mind and if all the players were thinking this way while focusing on their own search to make that one play it would become a team focus and would even connect them more fruitfully i would think. its personal focus witha team goal unto the ultimate reward of a win and additional rewards of furthering momentum even into the next game, enhancing their winning attitude.

mental heath professionals have less to do with this subject than walt disney. ya see faith is cultivated in the imagination via the heart and not in the money pouch via the textbook.

Its how you pick yourself up when your down and shove it right back in their face the next time. Dont sit there and take it! They score on you, you score on them! That takes 11 guys on the same page with the same attitude and no one gives up, ever!

Momentum is infectious! Unfortunately with the continuing lack of direction Miami wont have it entering the season...
In reflection.. I doubt the Colts and Peyton are worried..

I just hope that whoever starts the season is the starter throughout.. barring injury!

First the Broncos....then,..... the division!

I agree with you. I've been thinking a lot about what our teams chances are this year as the preseason has unfolded. I've come to the conclusion that we will be similar to the Bills last year, as far as in-season momentum goes.

I see us struggling early on to win games, find the right mix of players, players buying what the coaches are selling, and hitting our stride.

I see us hitting that stride midway through the season, not long after Ricky comes back with fresh legs and something to prove.

I see us finishing VERY strong, sending a messege to the rest of the league: "Y'all better look out next year, because after we make a few more tweaks in the offseason, we are going to come out and DOMINATE you in '06!"

That is why I'm looking forward to this season, and it's why I won't be disappointed if we do not have a winning season, rech the playoffs, etc.

I believe fully in Saban's "work in progress" mantra, and am excited to watch the team grow as the season progresses.

Momentum is underrated, but by the end of the season, I don't think it will be underrated in Miami anymore.

Good post.

I see a similarity

I truely think momentum is created by a winning atmosphere.
Take the Patriots. We kind of expect, in a close game, That they will, somehow pull it out. They feel the same way. It's difficult to get it started coming off a bad season but lets not forget that overall, Miami has been a winning organization for 30 some years. Before last year they where 10-6.
I think if they can pull a victory out of a couple games early they really might surprise us. Now I'm not going to say 10-6, 11-5 but we sure did shoot ourselves in the foot A LOT of games last year. The defense wore out late in games due to the enormous pressure and from constantly being on the field. If that doesn't happen this year and the Defense forses some turnovers..hell who knows. Didn't Carolina 2 years ago go from 1-15 to the super bowl the next?
