This call totally changed the first half. The replay clearly shows no one is downfield. And even the linemen who are maybe 2 yards further than the qb have NOTHING to do with the play. Why do they have to call this? I understand if a linemen is downfield near the player catching the ball. But this had nothing at all to do with the play (there wasn't even a Raven near him). A game with playoff implications, let the teams play.

I'm not saying this excuses our pathetic "2 minute defense" where we usually just decide to sit back and let qbs go 90 yards on us to end halves and games. But the call was BS, it had nothing to do with the play, and you're changing the whole dynamic of the game.

I think it's absolutely stupid too. On run plays you have lineman who get to the second level as a design of the blocking scheme. It may be so that linemen aren't killng db's with blindside hits. . .

I agree. But if that's the point of the penalty then at least only call it when the player being penalized is NEAR the play. This was across the field and 40 yards away with no Raven in sight.

I actually believe it was the right call. Linemen have to be aware that they can't be downfield on passing plays. He was so far away on that play, you'd expect that kind of awareness of a pro football player.

What constitutes "downfield" though? He was about 3 yards further downfield from the qb...again, no one near him.

Beyond the line of scrimmage and not blocking an opponent. If he was blocking someone it wouldn't have been a penalty.

It has to do with the read of the d backs. Head down it's a run, head back it's a pass, generally. D backs are taught to play run when lineman are downfield. Long, drawn out plays like the one today aren't necessarily the point of the rule.

Seriously....again??? This is such total BS. Again, no one was downfield. No one was even near the play. WTF

How frustrating. BS calls stalling our offense twice now. These are game changing penalties folks. For something that had nothing to do with the play.

Now they call it on the kickoff? There has to be something up here. Im guessing Harbaugh complained.
