I'm sure if I searched back to the pre-season threads I would find that most of us predicted that the Dolphins would go 9-7 , 10-6 this year. I recall some ultra positive fans saying 11-5 but for the most part the consensus was 9-7 - 10-6 and that record would be considered progress with the idea that in the next year or 2 we'd be competing for Division Titles. Although 9-7 is still obtainable and we haven't lost to any team we're clearly better than AND we even beaten a couple of teams we're clearly not better than (Pats, Chargers) It seems as though the sentiment has changed (myself included) and 9-7 is now a CLEAN HOUSE scenario. Why is this so? if if

If prior to the start of the season 9-7 was considered progress and worthy of at least another year, Should it matter how we got to that record? I'm thinking because we did win a couple of games no one expected us to win and that we played GB, Detroit, Denver close, it raised our expectations and now 9-7 would seem like a failure. For those of you who were in the Playoffs of Bust corner at the beginning of the season, obviously this isn't meant for you, as your stance is still valid. But for those on here like me who were thinking 9-7 was the ceiling considering the talent on the team, what do you think changed the sentiment?

Remember that children's story about the pied piper?

Some people simply read the sports page to get their opinions handed to them.

I think your research is right. Most were in that 9-7 or 10-6 range.

The difference for me is that our performance could have been better than that. Looking at the schedule in advance, I thought 9-7 was reasonable. But at 7-5, I thought we could finish with 10 wins.

Are you referring to me? It's not that I'm being ultra positive,, I'm just trying to understand how\why most fans expectations changed from where they were at the beginning of the season. I know for me 9-7 was progress if you had asked me at the beginning of the season, however for some reason I want change, and I can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe it's just as fans if your team isn't winning NOW then their losing. But how many HC's get a team that has been average for the past 15 years to SB contenders within 3 years? Are our expectations unreasonable? or is it common for that to happen? And our HC is not performing up league averages?

It's about failing to show up at all in the most important games of the year, particularly against Baltimore at home. The team was doa in the second half and it's become a common trend with Philbin in December.

Ah, no man. It was a reference that my preseason prediction was 11-5/division champs and you had labeled that as "ultra positive" in your post. I was simply mocking myself, nothing more.

I would prefer that when an organization makes a decision on a head coach he has a general 3-5 years to put his stamp on the team. That said, my concern has become Philbin's game planning leaves a lot to be desired. I don't understand our inability to play a consistent 60 minutes of football. We have all seen the team come out better in the second half of play but inspite of popular belief, there are very little coaching adjustments made during a half. There might be some tweaks in the week's game plan but nothing more. Injuries have depleted our talent and we've shown what a good team we could be when healthy, but again there just seems to be a lot left to be desired when it comes to Philbin as the HC. Especially such issues as in-game decision making. For the most part, I was in Philbin's yard but now I'm with you in the aspect that I'm peering over the fence in wonder of what another HC could bring to this team.

I was a 8-8 guy...I was complaining about the "hardest schedule".

I think you are missing the point that Philbin is basically in his contract year. At the end of the season it should be extend him or fire him, you can't just let the head coach go in as a "lame duck" on his last year of his contract.

Well, for me personally, I didn't put much emphasis on coaching. I just ASSUMED Joe would progess as the team did. But he's right back to 'Ol Joe who can't finish.
The games we should have won came down to lil quesey.
Give me those last drive wins against GB, Det., and Denver and you have the answer. A 10-6, 11-5 team. Maybe 12-4?
All the details can be boiled down to if situations, but with Lazor, Benton, top 5 defense, new offensive scheme, and adding players like Finnegan and Delmas it just comes down to playoffs or bust.

As a matter of fact a lot of posters also thought we would be a .500 in the range of 4-12 to 7-9.

Yes, I predicted 9-7. But, where did any of us saying we would be 9-7 every say that was good enough???
