i like the Jason Allen pick. i LOVE the Derek Hagan pick.

However...

i'm perplexed as to why we drafted Fred Evans, not that i dont think he is a capable player, because i honestly dont know, we have Manny Wright on the line who is 22, we have Vickerson whom we drafted last year and we added Rodrique Wright later in the draft who i think will develop into a starter. i just think that that pick could have been used elsewhere, we have youth at DT, but almost none at DE. Taylor and Carter cant do it forever, and its best to get someone in there now so that they can learn from those two.

i'm also a little perplexed by the Joe Toledo selection. we have LJ Shelton, Vernon Carey, Damion McIntosh, Anthony Alabi and Mike Pearson at tackle. Carey and Alabi are still very young, Pearson and McIntosh arent exactly up there either, and Shelton still has at least 3-4 good seasons left in him. again, i think we could have addressed other needs with this pick. i think that Toledo is talented and could be a solid O lineman, but i just dont know when he is going to see the field. we NEED depth at Guard where we have two guys on our second string that i am 100% not comfortable with.

i think those picks might have been used to address some needs a little better, there were players available.

Joe Toledo will need at least a year (perhaps two) to develop under the tutelage of Houck. When he does, either McIntosh will be gone or Carey will move inside.

fair enough, but i still think we could have gotten someone who addressed an actual need.

i was a little surprised we didn't draft any OLb's

I agree, you don't get drafted in the 4th by Nick if you don't plan on playing sooner or later. I think Carey will in fact move to guard and that is going to be Joes spot in a couple of years maybe next year, but for right now we have pretty good depth and he may not have to be on the field this year.

i wanted Nicholson in the 4th but i cant argue with what Saban did

We draft Matt Roth last year, and keep in mind we're trying to switch to a 3-4, thus we're looking for players who can play all the positions on the line, not just Dt or DE respectively.

I was a bit surprised too, but I think we may be shifting some guys around - some of our listed safeties may move to OLB. or, saban might think he could still get an experienced veteran before the season starts.

The Fred Evans pick was the one I dont like, I dont know the guy and he may well be a good player.....BUT Matua the G from USC was sitting there, and as Kiper said there was a debate over who was the better G he or Duece Lutui. He thought they were about even and couldnt believe that Lutui went 2nd round and Matua went in the 7th. The guy was rated as a mid rounder, and if Hadnot is forced inside our depth at the G position is scary thin.

Logically it would seem that there it would make more sense to add some depth to skill positions. However, many quality college players at RB and QB went undrafted, so the Dolphins can still fill out depth chart and get a player who they though could be valuable enough to use a draft pick on.

we currently have roughly 74-75 players on the roster. we are going to be getting rid of a bunch of people in order to get to 52 man roster. It is going to be interesting who stays and who goes.
