I know we will hear some crazy responses including mine but what do you think of Jason Allen?

I tend to be high on some players during the time of the year but every clip or every news regarding Jason Allen is completely Negative. He is out there struggling and our first round pick in last years draft is playing more like a Jammar Fletcher.

I don't know what position he is playing but obviously he is not doing very well at the corner position. We drafted him to be a safety and now we are forcing him to be a cornerback. We go back and forth and this guy still has no clear position on the defense. If he is struggling at corner then why is our coach bothering to put him there. Is it just practice or its Jason Allen failing us with a high draft status.

It aint all bad...Thks Totore

Personally I think he will give up and make BIG plays a lot like T.Buckley...In the end your glad he is out there but every now and then he is going to piss you off giving up a big gainer..then make up for it with a pick 6.

Part of Allen's issues last year arose by missing part of training camp. Also, the guy was a rookie last year and he had moved up in the depth chart because of injuries in the secondary. So, out goes Saban and in comes Cameron. In moving him to a new position, one would expect to see some growing pains. He has to adjust to his new spot, but he has a full camp to do it. It's not like he is the only player on this team who has to learn a new position (e.g. Vernon Carey at LT). It's too early to pass judgment, especially since the offense isn't exactly lighting it up in camp either.

I honestly hated the pick. Saban just had to pick him just because he played in the SEC. Horray, Horray!!! Lets draft players only from the SEC. Wait I got it, lets draft Samoans!!!

I still have high hopes for Jason Allen. I think the move to corner was the right one. First, because his confidence was shot at safety. Second, because it provides us with good depth at the position, and a potentially solid top four with Will, Travis and Andre. I think a full offseaon will do the kid wonders. Why? Because his issues were mental, not physical. He has all the attributes you look for, particularly the size and speed to play in this league. The problem was that every mistake he made at safety was magnified, because it turned into a big play (and often a TD) for the other team. Probably not the case anymore, and regardless, you have to expect he will be more familiar with the D and the calls. That, to go along with the apparent simplification of the secondary calls, should all go a long way in putting Jason in a position to succeed.

Its a big year for him. No doubt. If he turns out to be a player, our D is that much better. But dont give up on him just yet. He deserves a chance. Had Nick still been HC, I would say Jason would have no future as a Dolphin, merely because of their troubled relationship. Moreover, it appears that his "dont disobey" routine and "yell and yell some more" approach were not at all welcomed by the players, in particular the younger ones. In today's presser, Travis Daniels commented on how Nick would get on your case if you made a mistake, but move on to the next play in order to get in all the reps he could. Now, Dom stops the drill, explains why it occurred and how it should be changed, and then stops the tape in the film room to illustrate it again. So you can see why a guy like Matt Roth was hardly fond of the guy. Same could probably be said for Jason.

I honestly expect him to play only slightly better than a rookie corner.

Why? He has a general feel of the speed of the game and the scheme, but he is going into his first year at the position and even though he has played it in the past I expect some rust there.

That would be an improvement.

Frankly, I'd take that.

man I hope so.

I haven't given up on him at all. I'm just eagerly waiting to see his potential come true. I also wish he could learn to be the FS. If he could just develop as a ball hawking FS, I would say our defense would be that much better.

I couldn't agree more... this guy was drafted to be a safety and that is what this team needs from him. I do not see him developing into a top flight corner, but that is just me. It was obvious he was confused with the scheme as a safety so the coaches simplified it for him and moved him to corner, where he now receives the calls instead of making the calls.

Time will tell the story here - we are too early in his career to judge it. But by all accounts right now, he is not justifying being a #16 pick. The 2006 draft could go down in infamy as our worst of all time which is saying a lot - because we have had some really bad ones.

I think we will know after this year if there is hope or not.

He is fast and physical. If he can just figure out his assignments he should be good.

I think I read he had an INT today. Its something.

I had high hopes too when he was drafted. Yeah probably less screaming and moving and more coaching when doing him good. Why could Saban not connect with Pros when obviously he could with college ones? Perhaps what some fellow LSU fans were saying all along that our D-coord Muschamp was the real teacher and Saban the mad scientists behind it all was the real reason for the success of his D. Good strategem not good at tact when explaining at tactical level.

Some of it may come down to more teaching and learning combined with natural ability. And the same for the other D players. I want to read some reports of actual learning adjustments and good meshing of talent on the practice field. Those who are down on Allen should not give up. Way too early to do that. Not just because he was a first rounder but the fact that depth and chemistry is so important is why we need Allen to develop this year.
