After much thought, I've decided that I'm with the new regime on this Jason Taylor thing despite the fact that he is my second favorite Dolphin player all-time.
The problem, I'm having with all of this is that Miami is in direct competition with EVERY franchise in the league, and it makes absolutely no business sense to let its best player go to a competitor for a mere 4th round draft pick. Why turn Jacksonville's defense into what we helped turn New England's offense into last season? 'Cause we like Taylor? 'Cause the Jags are our friends. In the immortal words of Nino Brown, "friends are friends. This is business." That's a cold, hard stance to take but the NFL is a cut-throat business.
Jason Taylor has enjoyed a long, productive, prosperous NFL career. He could retire today and be better of than 99% of the US population so I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for him. If he doesn't return Miami gains nothing and trading him to a competitor only puts them further behind the competition. I love Jason Taylor the player, but the Miami Dolphins are bigger than any one player. Therefore I say let him retire, let's close ranks and let's move forward - with or without him.
