Implications Of The Zach Wilson Signing

He doesn't care.... week 17 and 18 proved that. He knows he's not talented enough to win a Superbowl. It's like an F1 driver, driving for Alpine or Williams, they are "in the race" but their not really racing for the win. Tua is a same, mentally hes just enjoying the ride.
where do you get this, Tua got injured offense suffered, IMO he has more than enough skills but the defense has to understand that as long as Josh Allen is upright the dolphins can't win, you have Tom Brady back there but if the defense are not playing defense at a high level how can Tua be at fault, The jets beat the fins 32-20 Tua didn't give up 32 points.

Hmm, not sure I agree with that because I’m not sure Wilson is considered a huge flyer at 6 mill but hey, I don’t blame them if they are fed up.
the price is rich i agree. by flier the whole point is wilson is not the QB best positioned to help them win games this year if tua gets hurt. he is still a project. the wilson signing was about the future, not the now. it is just a roll of the dice.

I think you can win some games with Wilson just as much as any has been backup.

that is where i disagree, and that was the point of the OP if you go back to it. my belief, as far as this year alone is concerned, and not thinking about the future, there are many other QBs who would be more well positioned to win games as a backup for the dolphins than zach wilson. he is not ready yet, and not a system fit. he is a bet on the future, not the present.

By comparing him to Josh Rosen I wasn't trying to compare attributes, just comparing him to another highly drafted QB that didnt work out. At least we didnt give up a 2nd rounder for Wilson. Rosen thing was idiotic. Typical Grier. Bid against himself, way overpaid with draft capital, for a guy that obviously sucked. Then they had no plan. If the idea was to tank, you dont sign Fitzpatrick, and you make Josh Rosen play, and lose every game. But they never were on the same page with Flores. That is all they had to do, and Joe Burrow would be our QB. IDIOTS!!!!
Flores wanted to win for his resume..... He took castoffs and did what I thought was an excellent HC'ing job in '19. In another thread I put up what I think should be painted on the wall in the Coach's meeting room:

"Coach what you have and do a better job with it."

Which we've seen a bunch of teams do in the past. 45 million dead cap is do-able.
my suspicion has been he gets two more years. correct me if i am wrong, if they try to get out after 2026, the dead money and actual cash money (which they care about too), drops drastically. if they get out after the 2026 season, do you know what both the cap hit (dead money) is, as well as what future cash they owe him at that point, if any?

I mean I can see your point but I’m just not sure any of it matters.

If Tua is hurt it’s over

If Wilson fails it’s over

If he succeeds because Tua is hurt then we have an asset

He's a 45 million dead hit next year.

True, but what if he stays healthy, gets the Dolphins to the championship game, SB, or even wins the Superbowl?

I know, it's a what if scenario, but that is the situation Tua is in. At QB, he has proven he can do more then enough to help the team win games. He is not elite, but he is far more then serviceable...But not reliable with his injuries.

Tua has now put himself not just in a situation that he has to prove he can stay healthy, but if his stats go down, if he looks even a little less reliable passing the ball, then he will probably be let go.

Tua needs to stay healthy (He even slightly hurts his pinky), he's done. He needs to continue to produce top 5 to top 10 stats as he has the last 3 years, or he might be done. He needs to reach the playoffs, or Miami might be going a new direction in 26 ...And even if he does reach playoffs, he needs to prove himself in the playoffs, or ChadRico might be...

I'm sure your right, I just hate the thought of waiting 2 more years to actually have some hope in this team again.

You’re a sensitive little one huh?

He did not make fun of fans for sitting on the coach eating chips… he said the play looks easy from your coach eating chips. Do you take everything you hear literal? He’s just saying let’s not play Monday morning qb and act like everything is so easy.

Being in great shape has no impact on a qb, in fact having a ton of muscles affects throwing range of motion. Look at MLB pitchers, almost none of them are jacked. A qb is much better off working on studying film or their mechanics then they are working out with weight.
I can still remember my fellow Oregonian, Mickey Lolich when he was a pot-bellied workhorse for the Detroit Tigers. Over 300 innings a year oftentimes. 30-game winner Denny McLain, no Adonis himself, slumped in the World Series but Mickey picked up the slack and was instrumental in the Tigers WS Championship of 1968. 3-0, all complete games. WS MVP, duh. Still alive and well at 84. One of my favorite all-time players.

I recall reading when Tua was at Bama, he liked to spend too much time in the weight room, doing power lift movements. Squats, deads, cleans. Saban had to reel him in on this. Told him it was counterproductive. Of course a second-rate coach like Saban cudda been wrong I suppose.
