Implications Of The Zach Wilson Signing

where do you get this, Tua got injured offense suffered, IMO he has more than enough skills but the defense has to understand that as long as Josh Allen is upright the dolphins can't win, you have Tom Brady back there but if the defense are not playing defense at a high level how can Tua be at fault, The jets beat the fins 32-20 Tua didn't give up 32 points.
Tua's two best individual performances last season were arguably at Buffalo and at Green Bay. The TEAM, however, lost both games. Sure but let's blame Tua.

True, but what if he stays healthy, gets the Dolphins to the championship game, SB, or even wins the Superbowl?

I know, it's a what if scenario, but that is the situation Tua is in. At QB, he has proven he can do more then enough to help the team win games. He is not elite, but he is far more then serviceable...But not reliable with his injuries.

Tua has now put himself not just in a situation that he has to prove he can stay healthy, but if his stats go down, if he looks even a little less reliable passing the ball, then he will probably be let go.

Tua needs to stay healthy (He even slightly hurts his pinky), he's done. He needs to continue to produce top 5 to top 10 stats as he has the last 3 years, or he might be done. He needs to reach the playoffs, or Miami might be going a new direction in 26 ...And even if he does reach playoffs, he needs to prove himself in the playoffs, or ChadRico might be...

agree. i wonder if he realizes the situation he is in? and i wonder if he cares now that he has been paid? he seems to be a pretty easy going guy, i wonder how much fire he really has in his belly at this point. we will see how he does. it is also possible your upside case happens to some degree. a qb can ball out, and not get his team to the promised land. i have no issues with joe burrow's season. if tua does something like that, and they don't get to the playoffs, tough to fault the qb.

I'm sure your right, I just hate the thought of waiting 2 more years to actually have some hope in this team again.
yup. would nice to get the actual numbers. but my recollection was (assuming there is no restructure), it is alot less painful for them to get out of the deal in 2026.

that is where i disagree, and that was the point of the OP if you go back to it. my belief, as far as this year alone is concerned, and not thinking about the future, there are many other QBs who would be more well positioned to win games as a backup for the dolphins than zach wilson. he is not ready yet, and not a system fit. he is a bet on the future, not the present.
I don't get this. Shouldn't McDaniel, Bevell, Frank Smith, etc, know best which QBs fit their system? Are we to believe they studied Zach Wilson, concluded he's not a system fit, and just said aw F it, let's get him anyway?

I can still remember my fellow Oregonian, Mickey Lolich when he was a pot-bellied workhorse for the Detroit Tigers. Over 300 innings a year oftentimes. 30-game winner Denny McLain, no Adonis himself, slumped in the World Series but Mickey picked up the slack and was instrumental in the Tigers WS Championship of 1968. 3-0, all complete games. WS MVP, duh. Still alive and well at 84. One of my favorite all-time players.

I recall reading when Tua was at Bama, he liked to spend too much time in the weight room, doing power lift movements. Squats, deads, cleans. Saban had to reel him in on this. Told him it was counterproductive. Of course a second-rate coach like Saban cudda been wrong I suppose.

Interesting didn’t know that about Saban and Tua

Think I found the article here

how did it work out for brisset, mike white, and skylar thompson? beyond that, what do your eyeballs tell you. tua is all about quick and accurate. wilson is a hold the ball, scramble, downfield (to the wrong team or ground so far) kind of QB. entirely different skill set than tua. black and white.

i guess tua, sadly, was a very good student in this regard. to me it seems tua no longer has the same drive. happens to people all the time. they burn out. going at it hard and dealing with a lot of pressure since he was a kid. then he got paid bigly on top of it all and is set for life. tua would not be unique in this respect. still a human being. is what it is.

It’s pathetic more than hilarious, but I was being kind. And I’m very balanced when it comes to Tua, his performance on the field and his injuries. I was an Herbert guy, I applauded signing Wilson and want us to draft a QB. It hedges our bets. Where I draw the line is when “fans” bitch about his body in the offseason from a family video. You people complained when he was fat in 2023 and complained again that he slimmed down in 2024. And Tuas “potato chip” comment was in response to a reporters question about fans criticizing his performance. He is correct, it’s easy to criticize from the couch, munching on chips.

I’m happy you eat well.
Correct or not, you don't say that to your fanbase, when your fumbling snaps on a weekly basis and just got done saying "show me the money" on a live microphone.

Hes making 50 million a year, the organization and the fans stood behind him even though he's never healthy, has a weak arm, can't scramble, can't QB sneak, can't extend plays and make throws like 75% of the QBs in the league .... and were supposed to sit down and stuff our faces with potato chips and also accept that "it's hard for him to not fumble snaps while in the shotgun"

It was a stupid ass thing to say and showed alot about his character off the field. He thinks the fans are stupid and should shut up no matter how bad he plays.

Hes an arrogant dumbass.

not only that, when you are a professional athlete, you are subject to public scrutiny. that is the deal. when you are a QB that signs a $55mm a year deal, and then says "show me the money" you become subject to more in the way of expectations and scrutiny. this is what he signed up for. he wasn't living up to his end of the bargain, and instead of being a leader, he reacted by being a whiny baby. this team has a soft problem, and tua is part of that problem. doesn't matter that the players like him. doesn't matter that the players like mcdaniel. children like eating sugar all day too, does not mean it is good for them.

ok according to spotrac they can get out of tua's deal after 2026 with a 35mm dead cap hit, after having paid him $152mm. i think if they tried to whack him after next year, the dead cap hit is alot bigger, and they still owe him the one year cash for 2026. so my guess is he is here through 2026. then the decision depends on how he has performed and held up physically. anyway, at a minimum tua is guaranteed $152mm and he seems to know he is guaranteed $152mm based on the shape he is in!

The Free Agent QB market was not good at all. Jimmy G is who I wanted but he turned out to be way too expensive.

Wilson is a riskier signing for sure but he does have more upside than Jimmy G or Minshew.

I might have tried to sign him for 2 years at a lower cap hit.

Something like 2 years for $9M with the same $6M guaranteed.

Wilson has played in the West Coast offense in the NFL, under LaFleur and Hackett, just not very well. Was that his fault or the fault of the coaching and organization? The Jets, particularly offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, were drawn to Wilson because of the similarities between the offense he played in at BYU and the one they were implementing. So, that offense he was in where he sliced up teams at BYU was a modified West Coast offense.

Just using old-fashioned logic and reasoning, it seems counterintuitive that the Dolphins' offensive coaching staff would target a QB2 that cannot function in their scheme.
Brissett never played for the Dolphins under McDaniel. White wasn't talented enough, and Skylar was a misevaluation, IMO.

and mike white? another mis-evaluation? and white got beat out by skylar!
