Going into this offseason there is one very important motto the dolphins must remember while searching for their Qb. No matter what, they must not reach and they must be patient.

1. If we reach for a qb not only could we end up with a bust, but we will be once again set back. And this team cannot afford set backs.

2. Patience is a virtue. This is not a one year proccess, but one in fact that could last several years. If we don't draft our qb this year then we wait til next year. After all it is not do or die. Also if we do draft a qb we can't rush him into this. We need to give him time to get comfortable and start winning.

agreed... but alot of people on here wouldnt have it. I think we must really try to shore it up this offseason, but I dont want us to reach badly (like trading up to like #8 to draft Jay Cutler). We have to be smart with this, because it will make or break your team for years...

Or trading our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th to trade up to san frans spot to draft vince young. That's a classic.

That is the singlemost important decision Mueller and Saban will make this year !

1- Believe that you are getting a future QB in the draft this year and keep GUS as the starter for 1 more year ...

2- Get a FA upgrade that can start THIS year ... AND that will be here for at least 3 years to provide the time to aquire the 'future' QB ... or the next stop gap for 3-4 years ...

Again, we don't HAVE to draft the 'future' QB ... and we don't need the same one for 10 years [albeit, that is the most preferred option] ... all we need is quality play for ~ 4 years at a whack to provide the continuity and consistency required for the offense to be successful.

I agree and while we are fishing for a QB I would rather pick one in the later rounds than in the first one. Possibly Whitehurst or Jacobs

There are two things that fans must remember about going after a QB in the NFL....

1) You always, always, always, always reach when you go after a QB...it's always a pot shot, whether it is a rookie draft pick, young FA or older FA...so be prepared to be 'surprised' when/if a deal is made.

2) When trading for a QB, whether it be moving up in the draft to get the guy you want or acquiring a guy from another team....you always, always, always, always overpay....So be prepared to be 'surprised' at the cost of a qb...it may be RW and a pick or picks, or several picks (w/o a player) and then we'll have to either pay the inflated salary that QBs get or sign the guy to a contract that may have cap implications.

But we definitely need to upgrade the position...thanks Wanny for 5 years of crappy drafts and lack of insight....

Agreed.....but I wouldn't worry about this at all, at least not with Saban. Remember "make haste slowly"......now if Wanny was our coach.........

does anyone else think that the fins should draft a qb and keep frerrote?

There can be no doubt that you are correct and Saban will follow that recipe. I think the QB's we will take long looks at are:

Jay Cutler
Omar Jacobs
Brody Croyle
DJ Shockley
The kid from UCLA (forgot his name)

I think this is the best for the long term future, yes. The only guy i would consider in FA right now is Carr, but I think he will stay in Houston.

Four words that refute this entire post:
Tom Brady
Dan Marino

I think people are going to forget about Cleo Lemon in this process and then the guy might be the future before the rookie we draft. Keep in mind, Cleo is going to be knowing much more than any rookie for a while and has already studies the O. I think he is the X factor in all this so if you get a FA upgrade as you say, then draft a rookie, you are basically saying Lemon is out of your picture. I think the best thing may be to draft two rookie QB's with one of them being a 7th rounder and see what sticks.

i agree, its critical that miami lands a solid qb this year.

not really Mitchy, they are so rare that they don't warrant being mentioned in a draft senario. Mostly you hope we hit it again but the odds are pretty slim.
