Dolphins still unsightly at times, but pushovers no more

MIAMI (AP) - For the Miami Dolphins, ugly lapses persist:

overthrown open receivers downfield, false-start penalties on

consecutive snaps, a botched short field-goal attempt and three

missed tackles by the secondary on a single play.

But through three games, the record looks much better. Miami is

2-1 and tied with New England for the AFC East lead.

That's something to savor after last season, the Dolphins' worst

since the 1960s, when they lost the first six games and finished an

unsightly 4-12.

"It's pretty obvious to me that, when we get it right, we have

a chance to be halfway decent," new coach Nick Saban said. "And

when we don't get it right, things don't look too pretty out

there."

Isn't San Luis Obispo a small city on the Cali coast? Why exactly are they talking about the Dolphins?

yeah but then again why not?

Saban's mystique and the whole resurrection of a foundering franchise that was elite until Jimmy/Wanny F***ed it all up. I am from an even smaller Cali town, Santa Cruz, actually even smaller than that but you wouldn't recognize the name being an out-of-stater. I have been a Dolphin fan since Shula's arrival and I for one appreciate anything I can find in print. Cheers, Zed

Are you saying I wouldn't recognize Santa Cruz? How stupid would someone have to be to not know where Santa Cruz is? I've been to Santa Cruz. I just thought it was weird that some local newspaper across the country would have a story about the Dolphins. Even my statewide newspaper, the Oregonian, doesn't have any articles on the Dolphins.

for those who don't know what the 'AP' means in front of a sports writers byline, it means associated press.

Therefore, though it may have been written in california, it can be used in any newspaper anywhere in america.

That is irrelevant. SLO is 50-60k if I remember correctly. Most local newspapers(as in small city or subarb newspapers) are almost all local news. It is kind of weird that they would have a story about a team all the way across the country. Am I mad that they did it? No, they can do whatever they want. It is just kind of weird.
