Game Notes:
The secondary played great against the Bears. Renaldo Hill seems to be improving. He recorded his first Pass Defended of the season last week at Green Bay. Against the Bears, he got his 2nd. He also got his first int of the season.

Jason Allen also had a good game, getting an int and 2 passes defended. As Jason Allen has had 0 of either interceptions or passes defended this season, it is an improvement. This also ties Allen with Hill for the season.

In Bell's first start of the year, he had 2 passes defended, and a Forced Fumble. On one of Bell's passes defended, his guy got 2 feet down, and bell knocked the ball out. They called it an incomplete pass. It was a questionable call that was very close to a 2nd Forced Fumble.

Stats:

Corners:
W. Allen - 2 passes Defended, 0 int, 0 Forced Fumble -- Season 8 PD, 1 int, 1 FF
A. Goodman - 1 passes Defended, 0 int, 0 Forced Fumble -- Season 4 PD, 0 int, 0 FF
T. Daniels - 0 passes Defended, 0 int, 0 Forced Fumble -- Season 1 PD, 1 int, 0 FF (2 games started)

Safeties:
Y. Bell - 2 passes Defended, 0 int, 1 Forced Fumble -- Season 8 PD, 0 int, 2 FF
J. Allen - 2 passes Defended, 1 int, 0 Forced Fumble -- Season 2 PD, 1 int, 0 FF
R. Hill - 1 passes Defended, 1 int, 0 Forced Fumble -- Season 2 PD, 1 int, 0 FF

Summary:
Games 1-7: 17 passes defended, 2 ints, 2 forced fumbles
Game 8: 8 passes defended, 2 ints, 1 forced fumbles

well, I do believe this suggests that the secondary is improving. They put up especially pitiful numbers earlier this season.

we ought to expect the secondary to improve since Saban specializes in defensive backs. I would be very worried if they regressed

Nice post. Some good observations. One game doesn't make a season but I thought the secondary played exceptionally well. W Allen started out a little rough but settled down as the game wore on. He did a nice job on Moose.
I was one of the few on this board that agreed with Saban's decision to hold off on playing Allen. I thought that if Saban felt he wasn't ready, then there was no point in plugging him inot the rotation. Sometimes when a DB gets beat early and often in his career it can kill his confidence and career. My thoughts were that I''d rather see Allen play later in the season, when he's familiar with the system, then see him rushed into action and get beat. The Steelers had the same approach with Polamalu. I'm not suggesting that Allen is the next Polamalu- it's still pretty early to make any conclusive judgements on him- but he played a pretty solid game last Sunday as well as making a couple of really nice plays.
Saban's system requires that his DBs make a lot of reads , more than the typical NFL secondary unit is required. Daniels, who despite not having the greatest of abilities, plays effectively in this system.

Good post dude. I thought Y. Bell played exceptionally well(compared to T. Tillman). It was good to finally see our 1st round pick play well too. Will Allen still bothers me though.

We're getting some picks and forcing turnovers. The coverage seems to be better, although we still seem to get hit with some bad pass interference calls now and then. Overall though, things are looking up.

Hill was out of position on that Muhammed (sp?) TD. I also saw Bell out of position on one mid-range pass. Possibly a reason he hasn't broken the starting lineup? Who knows? But Bell is a helluva playmaker!

Other than Will Allen being a little disappointing in the beginning, they seemed to have made strides.....

It all started up front, the DL put pressure on Grossman all day long.

yeah i have also noticed that they have improved steadily but its about bloudy time they had been playing absolutely horrendously the first part of the season:fire:

Its high time they improved, I like what I'm seeing from Jason Allen, hope his playing time continues to increase.

Yeremiah Bell was a big difference at strong safety and he will be the starter from now on. Jason Allen is improving every week and will work himself into the starting scheme by the end of the season IMO

Will Allen had a rough day but the addition of Bell and subtraction of Tillman made for a HUGE improvement.

I hope they throw Allen in as soon as possible. Why not throw him to the sharks now while there's not much to lose? Let the kid gain all the experience he can.

I think we all will know the answer to your question after the KC game.
