The emergence of the spread offense emerges..Points to consider:

1)Our offense finally showed signs of a pulse in the 3rd quarter of the Titans game when Henning decided to go 4 and 5 wide. Henne was slingin' the rock and moving the ball at ease.

2)Tyler Thigpen has had success in college and his early pro days from a spread-style offense. The year that Thigpen played for the Chiefs, that Chiefs offense had no trouble moving the ball with no name receivers and a lack of a run game. Unfortunately for Thigpen and the Chiefs, their defense was atrocious.. One of the worst in NFL history.

3)Outside of the first half against the Ravens, our run game has been very average. It's time to evolve like many of the successful offenses in the NFL, the Colts, the Patriots of the world, and pass the ball to set up the run. Smash mouth football is a thing of the past and its time to score early and often and then pound the rock in the 2nd half to run the clock.

The spread offense will undoubtedly ignite this offense but with its positives, comes some negatives...

1) Everyone be ready for Thigpen to throw an INT or two as he has that gunslinger mentality that seems to be a popular topic on these boards lately.

2)Spread offense puts a lot of pressure on our OL. We're starting a no name center (Proctor), with an injured LT (Long), and a LG (Incognito) that almost got two QBs killed.

Of course with saying all of this, I can see this coaching staff put its head in the sand and run the ball 3/4 of the game, handcuffing Thigpen to Henning's offense for dummies which includes the 10 yard comeback route and the 5 yard outs to Bess. :/ Tonight is a huge night for us Dolfans.. Can Thigpen continue his late game heroics from last week, or was he a 3rd string QB for a reason?!

do they...

  1. play to the stength of the players
  2. continue same ol' conservative play not to lose philosophy

guess we'll find out in a couple of hours

the running the ball philosophy would be fine if we could produce a push at the line, good coaches adjust to the talent they have not keep cramming it down their throat
