In depth look at Kenneth Grant and Draft Grades/Reactions

And Weaver has to be considered here. He’s known as a DL guru. Grant was picked because he’s nasty, big, and can do a lot. He will free up Sieler and our DE’s. If they try and put one guy on him he’s getting the sack/tackle.
I believe Weaver had more say over that pick than Grier who's basically now on watch.

We have some quality options ahead of us.

I personally hope the pick is OG, as in Jonah Savaiinaea, for one. I think there may be one or two others that might be a slightly better scheme fit, but I'd be more than okay with that big man on day 1.

There are a lot of decent enough corners and safeties to go around through the later rounds I feel, so not too worried there. Hell, Will Johnson is still sitting there, who was a lot of people's CB1. He'd have been drafted if all those injuries were of little concern.

All I need is for Grier to not trade up for someone that doesn't pan out, hahaha.
When Grier traded up, I was worried. Then I was, "YES".

the grade would be A for the Ravens because they got him with the 27th pick, not the 13th.
and yeah if the dolphins would have drafted graham or campbell at 13, everyone would be saying "we got a guy at #13 who was the #5 graded player, that is awesome!"
Even if they picked him at 13 they'd be getting an A

The DL is not set yet, we are going to add at least 2 more pieces for rotational depth, probably another late rounder this draft some UDFA and maybe a post 6/1 vet FA addition
You were correct. Guess the wolf Cryer's jumped the gun, as expected lol

First two picks were outstanding. I honestly don't know much about the rest except phillips. Now if we get two outstanding players that is an A draft. Currently I am giving us a c because we didn't pick in the 3 or 4 rounds. That is a long time for a team that went in with so many draft picks.

Dolphins draft DT Kenneth Grant: How he fits, pick grade and scouting intel

The Miami Dolphins have added to their defensive line, selecting Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant with the No. 13 pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

A two-year starter at Michigan, Grant split time between three-technique and nose tackle. He was part of Michigan’s dominant 2023 national-championship defense and continued to excel in 2024 alongside teammate and fellow defensive tackle prospect Mason Graham.

In 12 games in 2024, Grant finished with three sacks, seven tackles for loss, five passes defensed and two fumble recoveries. He also contributed to one of the top rushing defenses in the FBS. The Wolverines finished the season with the fifth-fewest rushing yards allowed (90.7), tied for the fourth-fewest rushing touchdowns allowed (10) and eighth-fewest yards per rushing attempt allowed .

‘The Beast’ breakdown

Grant ranked No. 25 in Dane Brugler’s top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide:

“A dominant run presence, Grant is a powerful boulder who can execute two-gap techniques or stack single blocks and work down the line with quickness. He looks to fire off the ball, although his tall pads will negate his leverage and lower-body strength, diminishing his bull rush and limiting the ways in which he can impact the quarterback. Overall, Grant plays big in a big man’s game, but he also has the athletic traits and effort to grow into more than just a stout run stopper. He projects as an early-down NFL starter with three-down upside.”

What anonymous coaches had to say about Grant in Bruce Feldman’s mock draft:

“He was just as impactful in our game as Graham. He’s a monster. He’s big and nasty and has some pass rush to him.”

“I thought he was just OK. I didn’t love him. I thought he took plays off. He’d jump around blocks. He didn’t always play through the blocks. He is very athletic, and you do see flashes of really good stuff.”

Scott Dochterman grades the pick

This was a little earlier than expected for Grant, who was rated as Brugler’s No. 25 player. Grant is a solid pick to take up blockers in the Dolphins’ 3-4 defense. He (6-3 5/8, 330) is the perfect defensive tackle to play over the center or between the A-gap and take up double teams. As his frame suggests, Grant is massive and yet he was still quicker than most men his size. At Michigan alongside Mason Graham, Grant compiled 11.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks plus 11 passes defensed over the last two years. He also has a wide wingspan (82 5/8).

Grade: B

How he fits

The massive Grant immediately steps in as the run-stopper the Dolphins were sorely missing in the middle of their defense. Though he has the requisite physical tools – he’s been a member of Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks List” – he’s probably not going to add a ton of pass-rush juice right away, but that’s OK. It can come in time. Meanwhile, the Dolphins just needed to get stronger up front and add some physicality and relentlessness to their team overall. Grant checks all of those boxes for them.

Depth-chart impact

Outside of Zach Sieler, the Dolphins’ defensive line was devoid of talent. They needed to throw some bodies at the problem, and they’re throwing a huge one at it with their first-round pick. Grant shouldn’t have much issue overtaking Benito Jones as the team’s primary nose tackle. Keep in mind, Miami’s linebackers are probably celebrating this pick right now. He’ll help keep offensive linemen from easily reaching the second level in the running game.

They also could have picked

A cornerback. With the expectation that the team is going to move on from Jalen Ramsey, the Dolphins still badly need some cornerbacks. They could have had their pick of the litter, as no cornerbacks had come off the board before their pick (outside of Travis Hunter). Jahdae Barron and Will Johnson made some sense in Miami, but perhaps they think they can address their issues in the secondary later in the draft.

Fast evaluation

The Dolphins have so many holes on defense, just about anyone they picked here on that side of the ball would have made some sense. The powerful Grant is going to be an immediate starter for them on early downs, and he has the chance to develop into a three-down player. That’s a solid pick and a solid start to Miami’s draft.

Warren was the pick, watch what that kid does. I went to 2 Penn State games last year and he was playing at a different level than everyone else on the field. I said the same thing about Parsons, but Grier doesnt read my posts and picked Waddle, the reciever that gets hurt like a soccer player.
He wasn't even the first TE picked dude...

Just wondering what the draft grades would have been if Miami took Barron, which seems to be what many of these pundits think the Dolphins should have done? Johnson fell to R2, so have to figure the injury was significant.

Personally, I had Grant and Barron more as trade down options (20 range). Complicating matters were the reported injury to Harmon and possible character concerns with Nolen.

I had Graham, Nolen, Harmon and Grant. But that's me and that's not knowing the issues fully with Harmon or Nolen.

By all accounts, Grant is a high character person and his physical play may be better the other three.

Love how Grant is a reach, but Will Johnson (who wasn’t selected due to a knee injury) and Jahdae Barron (a slot/safety hybrid) were better choices because we “need” CBs. Let me check the roster…oh that’s right we have 1 DL who can start, 1 DL who is a back up and 1 DL who is a practice squad guy currently signed. Solid player at a position of massive need…sounds like a garbage pick to me.
I repeatedly preached before the draft that we had to draft three DLs because we needed at least two who could play significant snaps. I was glad to see Grier agree with that.

You were very accurate with your pre-draft analysis. You are slightly partial to Oregon guys, but you also said Grant would be a solid choice. Well done Sir.

He’ll be fine, weaver loves to rotate. Only Sieler really played a ton of snaps. Campbell was next and only averaged 36 snaps per game. Grant averaged 39 and that’s with games vs northwestern which he only played 22 and Arkansas state where he only played 30 and game was over early lowering his average. In the bigger games where they needed him the whole game he was around 45-60 snaps which is way more than he’ll ever play here.

Yeah 325 would be a good weight but he’s out in the work so shouldn’t be an issue. Came to college 360 played sophomore year around 345 and is said to play last year at 335 so he continues to change his body every year to make himself a better player.

How did all those "genius sports writers" miss that?

Because they are "shortsighted blowhards" would appear to be the best answer. - LOL

"Empty barrels make the most noise."
So many of those old sayings seem to have real meaning. - LOL

How did Jamar Chase put up more bench reps than Grant? I mean its obvious he doesnt spend much time on the bench but still, seems super low for someone of that size.
